BIM Coordinator (Electrical) Job Description This role focuses on coordinating electrical systems within virtual design and construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows. The BIM Coordinator collaborates closely with field supervisors and project managers to integrate BIM models with field operations, ensuring accurate representation and coordination of electrical systems throughout the construction process. The position also supports adherence to established coordination standards and promotes effective collaboration with general contractors and other MEP designers. Responsibilities Coordinate electrical systems within BIM models to support project delivery and construction activities. Collaborate with field supervisors and project managers to integrate BIM models with field operations and installation plans. Apply and maintain established coordination standards for both project-specific coordination and internal coordination practices. Work closely with general contractors and other MEP designers to resolve clashes, align designs, and support overall project coordination efforts. Use Revit, Navisworks, and other BIM/VDC tools to model, review, and refine electrical systems within the project. Interpret and work from construction documents to ensure the BIM models accurately reflect design intent and field conditions. Support virtual design and construction (VDC) workflows by providing accurate, up-to-date electrical models and coordination input. Participate in coordination meetings to identify and resolve design and constructability issues related to electrical systems. Assist in implementing best practices for BIM coordination within the electrical discipline and contribute to continuous improvement of coordination processes. Essential Skills Minimum of 2+ years of coordination experience, preferably within electrical systems. Proven experience working as a BIM Coordinator. Hands-on experience with Revit for modeling and coordinating electrical systems. Proficiency with Navisworks for model review, clash detection, and coordination. Experience with AutoCAD in a construction or design environment. MEP design experience with a focus on electrical systems. Prior experience in electrical systems modeling within a BIM or VDC environment. Ability to collaborate effectively with general contractors and other MEP designers during project coordination. Ability to read and interpret construction documents in an electrical or MEP context. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with electrical contractors or on construction projects involving electrical systems. Background in virtual design and construction (VDC) processes. Familiarity with BIM coordination standards and best practices for electrical systems. Strong communication skills to support coordination with field teams and project stakeholders. Attention to detail and a methodical approach to identifying and resolving coordination issues. Work Environment The role is based in an office environment in Raleigh, North Carolina, working on-site with a project and coordination team. The BIM Coordinator works closely with field supervisors, project managers, and other design and construction professionals to support field integration of BIM models. Daily work involves extensive use of Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and other BIM/VDC tools in a collaborative, project-focused setting. The position operates within a professional construction and design environment where teamwork, communication, and coordination across disciplines are essential.
