Job Description

JOB Assists with operations of Project C.A.R.E. (Community Action to Reach the Elderly) and Project F.I.R.E. (Fuel Intervention to Rural Elderly).
Work Schedule:
Ten-hour days, Monday - Thursday; six Saturdays mornings per year. Grade 18 EXAMPLE
OF DUTIES
Supervises volunteers in shop and on construction sites. Oversees program safety and safe use of tools and equipment. Oversees pre-construction of wheelchair ramps and recycling ramp program. Pre-builds components of modular wheelchair ramps. Pre-builds components for varying jobs based on assessment and job specifications. Installs grab bars, hand rails, and smoke detectors in client homes as deemed necessary. Maintains lumber and material inventory, distributes tools for projects. Backs a trailer and uses all required equipment for ramp building and firewood. Prepares materials for multiple projects and multiple work crews. Attends staff meetings and necessary/required trainings. Assists with Emergency Shelter Operations when building serves as an emergency shelter. Performs other related job duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of County and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of aging and senior population and their needs. Knowledge of the federal, state, and local services/resources available to the elderly. Knowledge of carpentry and building concepts. Knowledge of hand tools and building equipment. Knowledge of local building code requirements. Skill in interpersonal and customer service. Skill in maintaining complete and accurate records. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to relate well to the senior population and volunteers. Ability to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds. Ability to recruit, train, and maintain a volunteer workforce. Ability to organize projects, accomplish tasks, and meet deadlines. Ability to operate and maintain program equipment and tools. Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, members of the general public and other groups involved in the activities of the County as they relate to the department.
