Project Manager Job Description This Project Manager role oversees mechanical, HVACR, and plumbing construction projects from initial concept through completion. The position combines project management, estimating, and field coordination to deliver engineered solutions that meet client needs, regulatory requirements, and budget expectations. You will collaborate closely with clients, architects, engineers, and internal teams to plan, price, and execute projects while ensuring safety, quality, and profitability. Responsibilities Develop detailed project plans using accurate drawings and specifications. Prepare comprehensive estimates and budgets for mechanical, HVACR, and plumbing projects. Create precise project specifications and engineered solutions for mechanical and HVACR clients. Draft clear and thorough technical reports for customers. Complete regulatory documents related to safety and compliance requirements. Communicate regularly with clients and coworkers to share results, updates, and technical information. Consult with clients to determine their needs and explain complex technical issues in an understandable way. Manage field activities to ensure proper implementation of engineering designs. Diagnose construction and maintenance problems, particularly those related to HVACR systems. Oversee repairs and technical improvements to ensure long-term system performance. Coordinate and oversee the installation of new systems and technologies. Supervise and direct onsite crews, including technicians and other field personnel. Research and pursue prospective project opportunities with clients, owners, architects, engineers, and industry contacts. Review and incorporate historical data from industry information, previous projects, and productivity reports into estimates and plans. Estimate projects for bid submittals by reviewing plans and specifications, calculating quantities, gathering quotes and submittals, constructing bids, and preparing formal bid packages. Create preliminary sketches and drawings for permits, bid purposes, and to initiate construction activities. Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, and evaluate site conditions to determine the scope of work. Coordinate the total estimating effort for each project, including all divisions, labor, subcontractors, materials, equipment pricing, and related items. Prepare quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimates. Build and maintain strong business relationships with architects, subcontractors, suppliers, building engineers, and other stakeholders. Collaborate with project staff, including superintendents and project administrators, to outline work plans and assign duties, responsibilities, and authority. Provide technical advice to project teams and assist in resolving project-related problems. Follow up on estimated jobs in a timely manner to determine award status and next steps. Take on additional responsibilities and special assignments as directed by leadership. Review contracts, scopes of work, and project schedules for assigned projects. Attend pre-construction meetings for awarded projects to ensure clear communication and coordination between project managers, field operations, and office staff. Obtain all necessary permits and licenses required for project execution. Manage project costs by monitoring labor and equipment usage and ordering job materials efficiently. Negotiate and prepare change orders and additional work authorizations as needed. Manage the financial aspects of contracts, including billing, invoices, rental equipment, labor costs, job costs, change orders, and related financial items. Coordinate ongoing communication with project owners, engineers, and internal management teams to keep all parties informed and aligned. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties. Five years of increasingly responsible construction and management experience. Strong project organization and coordination skills to manage multiple simultaneous projects. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Ability to present and communicate information clearly to clients, vendors, and employees. Knowledge and operational understanding of OSHA requirements, building codes, and relevant state, local, and federal regulations related to the construction industry. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints from stakeholders. Proven ability to run projects of varying sizes and scopes. Strong, positive, and professional communication skills in person and via presentations, phone, email, and other electronic communication tools. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel. Experience in project management within construction, HVAC, or plumbing environments. Ability to use construction management practices and principles in day-to-day project execution. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background or education in construction management, industrial, or architectural disciplines is preferred. Experience with HVAC and plumbing systems and their integration into building projects. Proficiency with Bluebeam for plan review, markups, and document management. Experience using construction software applications. Familiarity with blueprints, technical drawings, and specification review. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and building owners. Interest in professional development and continuous improvement. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide practical technical solutions in the field. Work Environment The role operates in a modern, brand-new office building that features abundant natural light and large personal offices designed to support focused work and collaboration. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $58000.00 - $102000.00/hr.
