Assistant Project Manager Job Description The Assistant Project Manager supports Project Managers in planning, coordinating, and executing luxury residential construction projects from pre-construction through completion. This role offers hands-on exposure to high-end custom homes and architect-driven projects in a collaborative, craftsmanship-focused environment. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who wants to grow into a true co-manager, taking on meaningful scopes of work and building a clear path toward becoming a Project Manager. Responsibilities Assist in managing multiple luxury residential construction projects simultaneously from pre-construction through completion. Support project scheduling, budgeting, and procurement to help ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, architects, design teams, and clients to keep projects moving smoothly. Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including contracts, RFIs, submittals, and change orders. Track project progress, costs, and timelines, and support project tracking and document control processes. Prepare meeting agendas, notes, and detailed status reports for internal and external stakeholders. Conduct site visits throughout the project lifecycle to monitor progress, quality of workmanship, and adherence to plans. Assist in resolving field issues by coordinating with site supervisors and other team members. Help ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and project specifications. Support clear and consistent communication between clients, architects, and internal teams. Help maintain strong client relationships through responsiveness, professionalism, and attention to detail. Drive and manage key scopes such as lighting packages, millwork, interior finishes, ordering, vendor coordination, and structural and mechanical scopes under the guidance of Project Managers. Manage processes with subcontractors, including coordination, scheduling, and follow-up to keep work on track. Assist with budgeting, estimating, and scheduling tools to support project planning and control. Participate in or help lead site meetings when appropriate, and act as a point of contact on active project phases as responsibilities grow. Collaborate closely with experienced builders and Project Managers to learn best practices in both construction and project/business management. Essential Skills 1-3 years of experience in construction or project coordination, preferably with residential projects. Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (preferred). Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with construction or project management software (preferred). Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, architects, subcontractors, and internal teams. Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to address field issues in coordination with site supervisors. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship in all aspects of project delivery. Experience with project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and contracts. Familiarity with budgeting, estimating, and scheduling tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications Exposure to high-end custom residential construction. Experience working with architects and design teams on architect-driven projects. Familiarity with high-end residential construction processes and standards. Demonstrated ability to manage vendor coordination and ordering for key scopes such as lighting, millwork, interior finishes, structural, and mechanical components. Proactive and eager to learn, with a strong work ethic. Team-oriented mindset with excellent collaboration skills. Interest in growing into a Project Manager role through hands-on responsibility and mentorship. Ability to thrive in a craftsmanship-focused, design-driven environment. Work Environment The role involves a split between office and field work, with time spent in an office setting in Albany and on active job sites throughout the surrounding region. You will regularly visit construction sites to monitor progress, quality of workmanship, and compliance with plans and codes. Assistant Project Managers work as true co-managers, taking on substantial responsibility rather than focusing solely on paperwork. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Albany, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $110000.00/hr.
