Leading new, custom automation projects on a regular basis (3-12 month project cycle) Working with and deploying cutting-edge automation technologies Managing projects with a high level of ownership and autonomy A balanced role with approximately 70% office, 20% shop, and 10% on-site field work Making a visible impact in a small, fast-growing company where performance is recognized Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our fast-paced custom automation and machine building firm . This role owns projects from kickoff through delivery, coordinating engineering, build, and customer communication to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to specification. You will manage automation projects incorporating robots, machine vision, and motion control systems to solve complex manufacturing challenges across multiple industries. We value transparency, quality, and speed in how projects are executed, and the Project Manager plays a central role in driving those outcomes. In addition to core project management responsibilities, this role requires hands-on engagement—supporting application development, coordinating shop activities, and assisting through machine build, FAT, and installation as needed. This is a high-visibility position for someone who thrives in a technical environment and enjoys seeing projects through from concept to customer acceptance. Duties 1. Project Ownership & Planning Own projects from PO receipt through FAT, delivery, and SAT Develop and maintain project schedules (engineering, build, debug, FAT, install) Define scope boundaries and manage change orders Establish internal milestones and customer deliverables 2. Financial & Commercial Control Track project budget vs estimate Monitor labor hours vs estimate and flag overruns early Coordinate and process change orders and billing milestones 3. Cross-Functional Coordination Coordinate mechanical, electrical, controls, and technicians Align purchasing and fabrication with project schedule Resolve resource conflicts and sequencing issues Drive internal accountability to deadlines 4. Customer Communication Serve as primary customer point of contact Run regular project status meetings and issue logs Communicate risks, delays, and corrective actions proactively Manage expectations through FAT and installation 5. Technical Oversight (Non-Design) Understand system architecture and key technical risks Ensure designs meet customer specifications and applicable standards Facilitate design reviews and approvals Escalate technical blockers to engineering leadership Required Qualifications
  • US Citizenship Required (we work on Government Projects
  • Green Card will not be acceptable)
  • 5 years of work experience in custom automation (Mechanical Design or Controls Programmer)
  • Customer run-off and issue troubleshooting experience required
  • Live near Westerville, Ohio area Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
