- Full-time The Opportunity Precision Cobotics (PCI) is seeking a Senior Automation Project Manager who thrives at the intersection of technology, people, and execution.
This role is responsible for managing the delivery of custom automation and robotics systems that help manufacturers solve real-world challenges. You will serve as the leader of the project team, trusted advisor to the customer, and driving force behind successful project execution. From kickoff through customer acceptance, you will guide complex automation projects while strengthening customer relationships and supporting company growth. Unlike project management roles at larger organizations, this position requires a hands-on leader. While project leadership is the primary responsibility, successful candidates are comfortable rolling up their sleeves and contributing wherever needed. Position Summary The Sr. Automation Project Manager is responsible for the on-time, on-budget delivery of automation and robotics systems for PCI's customers. You will serve as the primary point of contact for customers and internal engineering teams, translating technical requirements into actionable project plans and driving execution across mechanical design, controls, software, and systems integration disciplines. This role requires domain expertise in manufacturing and automation engineering—you have designed or built automation equipment, programmed PLCs or robots, or led controls and mechanical design efforts. You will leverage that hands-on background to make sound technical decisions, support the team, and hold everyone accountable to schedule, quality and profitability. Willing to travel to customer sites up to 20% of the time. Key Responsibilities Project Delivery Delivering projects in a manner that creates an exceptional customer experience.
Own the full project lifecycle:
scope definition, scheduling, resource planning, material management, budget tracking, risk management, and customer acceptance. Monitor financial performance including labor, purchased materials and overall project profitability. Develop and maintain detailed project plans (Jira or equivalent). Drive weekly project reviews and customer status meetings; escalate risks and issues proactively. Manage change orders, scope creep, and schedule impacts with clarity and professionalism. Technical Leadership Serve as the technical bridge between customer requirements and the engineering team—translate specifications into actionable design tasks. Review and approve mechanical designs, electrical schematics, software architectures, and test plans. Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities with customers. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement Build and maintain strong customer relationships throughout the project lifecycle and beyond. Lead project kickoff meetings, design reviews, and commissioning activities at customer sites. Collaborate with Sales and Applications Engineering during the proposal and scoping phase to ensure projects are set up for success. Team Development Mentor engineers and project coordinators while modeling technical excellence and accountability. Contribute to continuous improvement of project management processes, tools, and best practices. Help foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and customer satisfaction. Qualifications Experience 7+ years of automation engineering, systems integration or related automation experience. 3+ years of project management experience managing custom automation or capital equipment projects. Demonstrated ability to successfully lead complex automation or capital equipment projects from concept through customer acceptance. Track record of on-time, on-budget delivery in a fast-paced engineering environment. Technical Skills Proficiency in one or more of: PLC programming (Rockwell, Siemens), HMI development, robot programming (Universal Robots, FANUC, ABB), or mechanical design (SolidWorks, AutoCAD). Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings Familiarity with machine safety standards (ISO 13849, NFPA 79) and automation integration practices. Experience with project scheduling tools (Jira or equivalent). Education Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
