Job Title:
Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer (Traveling) Job Description This role offers an opportunity to work as a traveling Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer on large-scale construction projects across the United States, with an initial focus on wastewater and biogas renewable plant construction. You will support both the Project Manager and Construction Manager in delivering complex projects on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality. The position will begin in a work-from-home capacity until projects fully mobilize, then transition to full-time on-site work for extended durations. Responsibilities Assist the Project Manager and Construction Manager in delivering the full project scope of work and implementing construction activities in the field. Support both the superintendent and senior Project Manager with submittals, RFIs, schedule coordination, meeting agendas, subcontractor meetings, schedule updates, documentation, and daily reporting. Record and distribute meeting minutes, generate meeting agendas, and track day-to-day operations through detailed daily field reports. Develop, maintain, and update project reports and logs, including RFI logs, submittal logs, equipment tracking logs, and other status reports used by the Project Manager. Become thoroughly familiar with the project scope of work, schedule, drawings, and specifications to understand project deliverables and support effective decision-making. Assist the Project Manager in preparing change orders, supporting budget updates, and tracking project costs, even though you will not hold primary financial responsibility. Assist in writing Methods of Procedure (MOPs) to plan work in a way that protects ongoing plant operations and clearly communicates methods, safety measures, and impacts to all stakeholders. Track equipment deliveries, document missing or damaged equipment, and coordinate with contractors on the storage and maintenance of project equipment. Support and promote all safety programs, trainings, and policies, and actively manage the safety and health of project team members, subcontractors, and site visitors. Ensure subcontractors, vendors, and all site personnel adhere to safety standards, maintain a safe working environment, and complete required safety reports and analyses. Perform daily updates to the project schedule, work with the Project Manager to provide regular schedule updates, and help keep the master schedule accurate and current. Understand contract terms and conditions associated with purchase orders and assist the Project Manager in ensuring vendors and subcontractors meet their contractual deliverables. Assist with the coordination and development of the final Commissioning Plan, including owner training, project closeout activities, as-built documentation, and start-up checklists. Capture site conditions and progress through photographs and maintain organized documentation of construction activities. Offer proactive assistance to co-workers and contribute to additional tasks as needed, including helping with facility maintenance and maintaining office supplies. Travel to project sites across the country and remain on-site for extended periods, potentially over a year, to support field operations and project delivery. Essential Skills Experience in construction or construction management, preferably with 3 years of experience, though candidates with 1-2 years of relevant experience will be considered. Hands-on experience with RFIs, submittals, daily reporting, and construction documentation. Familiarity with construction project schedules and the ability to perform daily schedule updates. Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and project scopes of work. Experience coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and field teams on active construction projects. Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore or similar platforms. Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation. Strong written and verbal communication skills for meeting minutes, agendas, RFIs, and coordination with project stakeholders. Ability and willingness to travel frequently and work on project sites located across the United States. Self-motivated, proactive attitude with the ability to assist in any capacity needed to advance project tasks. Commitment to safety and familiarity with construction safety practices, reporting, and analysis. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in industrial construction, such as wastewater treatment, biogas renewable plants, or similar large process facilities, is preferred. Experience with larger ground-up construction projects is highly valued. Prior exposure to commissioning, project closeout, and owner training processes is beneficial. Experience assisting with budgeting, cost tracking, and change order preparation is an advantage. Ability to write or contribute to Methods of Procedure (MOPs) or similar planning documents. Comfort working in a fast-paced, field-based environment with evolving project needs. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Work Environment This is a traveling, field-based role supporting large-scale construction projects located in various regions across the United States, with initial projects anticipated in Burley, Idaho and the Rome, New York area on a major wastewater or biogas renewable plant project. The position will begin as work-from-home until project mobilization in mid-summer, then transition to full-time on-site work. Typical project hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and you are expected to be on site during these hours. While not routinely planned, occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet project needs. You will work closely with onsite construction teams, subcontractors, vendors, and project leadership in an active construction environment that includes industrial facilities and large ground-up sites. The role involves frequent use of construction management software such as Procore or comparable tools, as well as standard office and field documentation tools. Extended stays on site are common and may last over a year, with travel, lodging, and per diem arrangements discussed and supported in line with project requirements. The work environment emphasizes strong safety culture, structured communication, and collaboration, with expectations that all personnel contribute to a safe, organized, and professional jobsite. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burley, ID. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
