The South Dakota Department of Health, Division of Family and Community Health, is seeking an organized and motivated individual to serve as the Grants and Contracts Project Manager. This role provides cross-division support to the Offices of Public Health Nursing Services, Lifespan Health, and division leadership. This position will coordinate grant reporting, overseeing contracts and budget tracking, support operational planning, and facilitate communications and reporting. This role ensures timely, compliant execution of grant requirements, contract deliverables, operational milestones, and leadership reporting across multiple public health initiatives. Licenses and Certifications:
Project management certification is preferred but not required The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
At minimum, a bachelor's degree in public health, public administration, business, finance, health sciences, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience (2-3 years) in grants management, contract administration, project management, and program coordination. Knowledge of:
grant management processes, including reporting, compliance, and application development; contract development, procurement practices, and vendor management; budgeting, tracking expenditures, and interpreting financial documentation; public health program operations; state and federal reporting systems or similar platforms; project management principles and effective workflow practices. Skill to:
organize, track, and manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines; prepare reports, summaries, and guidance materials; communicate and facilitate coordination across teams; analyze guidance, financial data, contract language, and operational requirements; use Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams, Word, SharePoint) and learn new software systems; problem solve and identify operational inefficiencies. Ability to:
interpret and translate grant guidance into actionable steps for program staff; collect, synthesize, and organize information from diverse sources; maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with timelines and standards; work collaboratively with teams, partners, and contractors; support leadership with clear, concise reporting; manage complex information with professionalism.
