Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE
Vela Living & Design is a residential interior design studio led by Creative Director Bailey Kimbell. We're hiring a contract Junior Interior Designer & Project Coordinator to help bring a high-end Austin home to life, from design development through final installation. This is a hands-on, hybrid role for someone who is equal parts designer and organizer. You'll turn design concepts into polished renderings, keep procurement and budgets on track, coordinate vendors and deliveries, and help document the project. You'll work directly with the Creative Director and carry a six-figure furnishings project from start to finish, a strong portfolio piece.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Convert design concepts into professional 3D renderings (SketchUp + Enscape / D5 / Lumion)
  • Maintain the project budget and procurement trackers in Google Sheets
  • Place furniture and decor orders and manage vendor communication
  • Track shipments, deliveries, and project timelines
  • Coordinate schedules with vendors, movers, and installers
  • Attend deliveries and installations onsite in Austin
  • Capture photos/video and help create social content documenting the project
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
(MUST-HAVES)
  • Interior design degree, current upper-level student, or recent grad (or an equivalent portfolio)
  • Proficiency in SketchUp and at least one rendering tool (Enscape, D5, Twinmotion, or Lumion)
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing budgets and trackers in Google Sheets
  • Clear, professional communicator
  • Austin-based and available to be onsite for deliveries and installs
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and self-managing
NICE TO HAVE
  • AutoCAD
  • FF&E / procurement experience
  • Photo/video and social content
  • Vendor/trade relationships DETAILS
  • Contract role (1099), approximately 2 to 4 months
  • Hybrid, with onsite days in Austin
  • Flat project fee of $7,500 to $9,000 depending on experience, paid 50% upfront, 25% at midpoint, and 25% at installation
  • Reports to the Creative Director
ESTIMATED WORKLOAD BY RESPONSIBILITY
  • Renderings from Canva selections (~8 spaces + revisions): 30 to 50 hrs
  • Budget tracking & reconciliation: 15 to 30 hrs
  • Vendor coordination (15+ vendors / trade accounts): 25 to 40 hrs
  • Placing & tracking orders: 15 to 30 hrs
  • Contractor / installer coordination: 10 to 20 hrs
  • Assisting with design concept: 15 to 25 hrs
  • Vendor / product sourcing research: 20 to 35 hrs
  • Onsite for staggered deliveries & install: 20 to 40 hrs
  • Building & maintaining the design schedule: 5 to 10 hrs
Total:
roughly 155 to 280 hours, realistically planning around ~200 hours. At ~200 hours, the $7,500 to $9,000 flat fee works out to about $37.50 to $45/hr.
