PROJECT CONTROLS LEAD
Mechanical Construction SUMMARY The Project Controls Lead oversees cost management, scheduling, forecasting, reporting, and performance tracking across multiple mechanical construction projects. This role ensures accurate project data, drives financial discipline, and supports project teams with the tools, analysis, and insights needed to deliver work safely, on time, and within budget. The position requires strong analytical skills, deep understanding of construction operations, and the ability to partner with project managers, field leadership, and executives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Cost Management
- Develop, maintain, and validate project budgets, cost codes, and cost tracking systems. Monitor labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs to ensure alignment with financial targets. Forecasting
- Prepare monthly cost forecasts, analyze variances, and identify trends or risks that may impact project performance. Provide early warnings and recommended corrective actions. Scheduling Oversight
- Support development and maintenance of project schedules. Validate logic, sequencing, durations, and progress updates. Coordinate with field teams to ensure schedule accuracy. Earned Value Analysis
- Implement earned value management processes to measure progress, productivity, and performance. Produce EV reports and communicate findings to project leadership. Reporting
- Generate weekly and monthly project controls reports including cost status, schedule updates, productivity metrics, cash flow, and risk summaries. Change Management
- Track potential changes, validate cost and schedule impacts, and support preparation of change order documentation. Maintain accurate logs and ensure timely approvals. Risk Management
- Identify project risks, quantify impacts, and support mitigation planning. Maintain risk registers and update leadership on exposure levels. Process Improvement
- Standardize project controls processes, tools, and templates. Train project teams on best practices and ensure consistent application across all projects. Collaboration
- Partner with project managers, superintendents, estimators, and accounting teams to ensure alignment on cost, schedule, and reporting expectations. Data Integrity
- Ensure accuracy of project data in cost systems, scheduling software, and reporting platforms.
Conduct audits and implement corrective actions when needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field. 5 to 10 years of experience in project controls, cost engineering, or scheduling within mechanical, industrial, or commercial construction. Strong proficiency with cost management systems, scheduling software, and data analysis tools. Ability to interpret drawings, scopes of work, labor plans, and construction sequencing. Excellent analytical, communication, and problem solving skills. Proven ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
