Job Title:
Project Manager - Solid Waste (Hybrid/Remote) Job Description The Project Manager will lead and deliver solid waste projects across the Southwest region, with a focus on landfill design, environmental regulatory compliance, and technical project execution. This role oversees the full project lifecycle, from planning and design through implementation and delivery, while ensuring alignment with client business objectives, budgets, schedules, and quality standards. The position offers flexibility to work in a hybrid or remote capacity and supports project teams and clients across California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. Responsibilities Lead and manage solid waste and landfill projects from initiation through completion, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, within budget, and to defined quality standards. Develop clear project scopes, schedules, objectives, and budgets that align with client business goals and regulatory requirements. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships and ensuring responsive communication throughout the project. Coordinate and allocate resources across internal teams and external consultants or vendors to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met. Manage project changes related to scope, schedule, and cost, and communicate impacts to stakeholders in a timely and transparent manner. Provide technical leadership on solid waste and landfill projects, developing practical and innovative solutions to complex project challenges. Review and oversee the preparation of designs, drawings, calculations, and permit documents prior to submission to ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance. Oversee the interpretation of field data and site information to inform project design, reporting, and future project planning. Ensure all technical deliverables meet established engineering, environmental, and quality standards, as well as client expectations. Support business development efforts by contributing to client prospecting and the execution of sales and opportunity plans for solid waste and landfill services. Develop and contribute to compelling, technically sound proposals by understanding client objectives, regulatory drivers, and technical requirements. Review and monitor project financials, including invoices, accounts receivable, contracts, and overall project budgets. Track and manage project profitability, risk, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and health and safety compliance throughout the project lifecycle. Mentor and oversee junior staff, providing guidance, feedback, and technical support to promote professional growth and career development. Collaborate with and support other project managers and teams, sharing expertise and resources as needed to ensure successful project delivery across the group. Essential Skills Proven project management experience delivering engineering or environmental projects on time, within scope, and within budget. Demonstrated experience in solid waste and landfill projects, including landfill design and related environmental regulatory compliance. Strong background in environmental compliance, with the ability to ensure projects meet applicable regulations and permit requirements. Ability to develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and objectives aligned with client business goals. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary internal teams and external consultants or vendors to achieve project milestones. Technical expertise to provide leadership and develop solutions to complex project and design challenges. Proficiency in reviewing and approving engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and permit documents. Ability to interpret and utilize field data for reporting, design refinement, and future project planning. Experience supporting or leading client relationships and serving as a primary point of contact on projects. Capability to manage project changes related to scope, schedule, and cost, including risk and impact assessment. Strong financial acumen to review invoices, accounts receivable, contracts, and overall project financial performance. Knowledge of QA/QC practices and health and safety compliance within engineering or environmental project settings. Leadership skills to mentor junior staff and collaborate effectively with other project managers and teams. Professional Engineer (PE) license or strong progress toward obtaining a PE license. Experience with solid waste, landfill, and environmental regulatory compliance, including familiarity with field data collection and interpretation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer on solid waste or landfill projects. background in waste management, including solid waste facility operations, landfill systems, or related infrastructure. Experience contributing to business development activities, such as client prospecting and sales opportunity planning. Demonstrated ability to prepare or support the development of technical proposals and scope documents. Strong written and verbal communication skills for client interaction, reporting, and team coordination. Ability to work independently in a hybrid or remote setting while collaborating effectively with distributed teams. Comfort with occasional site visits to landfills or other solid waste facilities to support design and field data interpretation. Work Environment This role offers a hybrid work environment with a blend of office-based work, remote flexibility, and occasional site visits to solid waste and landfill project locations. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado, using modern engineering, project management, and communication tools to coordinate work across offices and remote settings. The typical work hours are approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., supporting a consistent daytime schedule. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Long Beach, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $88.92 - $124.52/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
