Job Title:
Project Manager - Electric Distribution Projects Job Description This role leads and delivers electric system distribution and utility relocation projects that support critical engineering initiatives in the region south of Seattle. The Project Manager oversees multiple customer- and contractor-initiated projects simultaneously, ensuring they are planned, executed, and completed safely, on time, and within budget. The position requires a strong foundation in project management and a general knowledge of, or the desire to learn, the technical aspects of electric utility construction, as you will serve as a subject matter expert for customers and internal stakeholders. The Project Manager upholds safety compliance standards in all operating and field procedures related to assigned work. Responsibilities Lead multi-disciplinary project teams delivering electric system distribution and utility relocation projects. Develop, manage, and forecast project schedules and budgets for multiple concurrent projects. Coordinate resources and provide clear oversight and direction to team members to ensure project objectives are met. Perform thorough upfront project planning to minimize costs and change orders, identify risks, and maximize efficiency. Advocate for operational objectives and use negotiation and conflict resolution to address project issues. Define and clarify the scope of assigned projects and determine logical actions to meet project requirements and deadlines. Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, managing the customer relationship throughout the project lifecycle. Communicate technical information clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences, including in public settings when required. Accurately identify customer needs, set reasonable expectations, and proactively highlight potential issues and alternative solutions. Recognize technical issues that may impact projects and develop plans to mitigate project risks. Facilitate communication between service providers and internal customers, including providing technical support as directed by senior project management. Respond promptly to customer concerns and coordinate with appropriate parties to resolve issues. Provide technical assistance to internal and external customers as needed. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, design criteria, and operation and maintenance requirements for electric distribution projects. Apply general rules, standards, and guidelines to specific technical problems in project design and execution. Plan and manage modifications and upgrades to existing facilities on the electric distribution system. Collaborate with internal departments, service providers, EPC contractors, developers, and external entities to coordinate construction schedules and secure necessary resources. Support construction activities related to assigned projects, including field coordination where needed. Report on project and program progress as directed, providing accurate and timely updates. Gather, consolidate, and analyze data and facts in relation to project requirements to support decision-making. Support emergency response work when requested, contributing project expertise to urgent operational needs. Perform other related duties as assigned to support project and program success. Essential Skills At least four years of relevant work experience, including managing simple projects. Demonstrated project management experience in engineering, design, or construction environments, particularly related to electric systems or utility projects. Ability to manage multiple simple to medium-complexity projects in a cross-functional environment. Basic knowledge and experience in scheduling and estimating for construction or engineering projects. Basic knowledge of accounting and finance principles as they relate to project budgeting and cost control. Basic knowledge of project management disciplines to effectively arrange resources and track progress. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences. Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Customer-oriented mindset with a positive, team-oriented, and collaborative attitude. Flexibility and an understanding of the business issues driving the need for each project. Solid work ethic, including reliability, accountability, and attention to detail. Commitment to safety and adherence to safety compliance standards in all project activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Experience with electric utility construction or a strong desire to learn the technical aspects of electric utility construction. Experience in construction project management, including coordination with contractors and service providers. Background in engineering or design related to electric distribution systems or infrastructure projects. Experience in forecasting project schedules and budgets and reporting project status to leadership. Skill in negotiation and conflict resolution to address project issues and stakeholder concerns. Experience supporting or participating in emergency response work related to utility or infrastructure operations. Work Environment This is a remote position with the expectation that the employee lives local to the area south of Seattle to effectively support regional projects and stakeholders. Work is primarily performed from a home office environment using standard office technology and project management tools. The role involves regular virtual collaboration with internal teams, service providers, EPC contractors, developers, and external entities, as well as occasional site or field coordination as needed to support construction activities and project milestones. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Olympia, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
