Job Description
Project Manager/EstimatorPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced Project Manager/Estimator to lead industrial and construction projects from pre-bid estimating through closeout. This hybrid role requires technical knowledge of rigging and millwright work, strong estimating and budgeting skills, and the ability to manage field crews and subcontractors. The successful candidate will perform site visits, develop accurate bids and scopes, maintain project schedules and budgets, and ensure safe, on-time delivery of quality work.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed, accurate estimates and bid packages for industrial and construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor quotes, and contingency.
Lead pre-bid activities: review plans and specifications, coordinate and conduct site visits, document site conditions, and identify risks and access constraints (including rigging and millwright considerations).Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, and cash flow forecasts; track progress and adjust estimates and schedules as required.
Coordinate scope and sequencing for rigging, millwright, and heavy-lift operations; ensure proper equipment selection, lift plans, and qualified personnel are assigned.
Manage procurement and subcontractor selection, negotiate terms, issue POs, and monitor subcontractor performance and compliance.
Oversee on-site construction activities, provide technical direction to crews, resolve field issues, and ensure work is performed to specification and quality standards.
Administer change orders and claims: evaluate field requests, prepare cost/time impacts, and negotiate with owners and subcontractors.
Maintain project documentation, reports, and closeout records; provide regular status updates to clients and senior leadership.
Enforce safety policies and ensure compliance with OSHA and company programs; participate in safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture.
Build and maintain client relationships, attend client meetings, and represent the company professionally during pre-bid and construction phases.
Qualifications5+ years of combined project management and estimating experience in industrial or heavy construction environments; experience with rigging and millwright scopes strongly preferred.
Proven track record preparing competitive, accurate estimates and managing projects through construction to completion.
Hands-on knowledge of rigging, millwright techniques, heavy lifts, and industrial equipment installation.
Experience conducting pre-bid/site visits and producing bid scope letters, takeoffs, and site condition reports.
Familiarity with estimating and project management software (for example: Sage Estimating, Procore, Excel-based takeoff tools, or similar).Strong understanding of construction contracts, change order processes, and cost control practices.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills; ability to coordinate multiple trades and stakeholders.
Relevant certifications preferred: OSHA 30, NCCER, certified rigger, PMP or CCM is a plus.
Formal education in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent technical/trade experience (e.g., certified millwright).Valid drivers license and ability to travel to job sites; physical ability to perform site inspections, sometimes in industrial environments.
