Job Title:
Project Manager I (Chemical Regulations / Non-IT)
Location:
Waukegan Road, North Chicago, IL 60064
Work Model:
Hybrid (Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday Onsite | Monday & Friday Remote)
Core Operating Hours:
7:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST (with flexibility; occasional overtime based on business needs)

6 Months (Possibility of extension pending budget approval) Position Overview We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Project Manager I (Chemical Regulations) to join our Restricted Substances Management (RSM) team. This role is responsible for driving compliance activities related to global chemical regulations, restricted substances legislation, and product/component data management. The ideal candidate does not necessarily need a formal "Project Manager" title but must possess strong data-handling capabilities, independent workload management skills, and a solid understanding of how global chemical regulations impact manufacturing and supply chain operations. Core Skills Required Regulatory Interpretation:
Ability to interpret global restricted substances regulations and evaluate supplier compliance declarations against them.
Data & Information Management:
High proficiency in handling, categorizing, and organizing large datasets externally within MS Excel.
Independent Program Management:
Proven capability to drive multiple small-to-medium compliance campaigns in parallel with minimal day-to-day guidance.
Systems Literacy:
Experience extracting reports and retrieving data from enterprise systems like SAP and Arena.
Cross-functional Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to influence internal stakeholders and follow up rigorously with external suppliers.
Primary Responsibilities Campaign & Data Management:
Plan, organize, and execute large-scale supplier compliance campaigns. Gather, evaluate, and track restricted substances declarations and supplier compliance statements.
Systems & Data Extraction:
Utilize SAP (view/report extraction access only) and Arena to extract product, component, and sub-assembly data, managing and analyzing this information externally within Excel.
Regulatory Evaluation:
Assess component and sub-assembly information to determine restricted substances impact, ensuring data aligns with global regulations.
Supplier Engagement:
Interact extensively with global suppliers and Third-Party Manufacturers (TPMs) to obtain high-quality, compliant regulatory data.
Process Implementation:
Translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable business processes, implement them, and maintain accurate compliance records within internal tracking systems.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Partner closely with internal cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Product Lifecycle Management) to communicate RSM issues and support long/short-term planning. Core Regulatory Scope The selected candidate will actively manage compliance and data initiatives related to global regulations, including but not limited to: REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) US Conflict Minerals California Proposition 65 China MEE No. 12 and other country-specific chemical legislation. Qualifications & Requirements Education Bachelor's Degree is preferred, ideally in a Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline. (Master's degree is acceptable, though compensation is aligned with the core role requirements). Experience & Background Minimum 1-2 years of demonstrated experience managing projects, compliance campaigns, or high-volume data coordination.
Industry Preference:
Direct experience within highly regulated environments such as Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Medical Devices, Supply Chain, Engineering, or Chemical Production is highly preferred.
Note:
Subject-matter expertise and recent exposure to chemical regulations are valued more heavily than total years of experience or specific job titles.
Technical & Soft Skills Advanced Excel Skills:
Comfort working extensively within complex spreadsheets to categorize, filter, and track high volumes of compliance data (analytical modeling is not required; information categorization and auditing are key).
System Familiarity:
Prior experience with SAP (for report extraction/viewing) is required. Familiarity with Arena PLM software is highly desirable.
Autonomy & Proactiveness:
A proven self-starter who can multi-task, prioritize workload effectively, and operate with minimal direction in a collaborative cubicle/team environment.
Influence & Collaboration:
Ability to build relationships and solicit cooperation from both internal global stakeholders and external suppliers to meet strict compliance deadlines.
