Job Description

Position Summary Rye Electric is seeking a highly adaptable and solutions-driven Project Manager to lead our Special Projects division. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, can shift priorities quickly, and enjoys managing a wide variety of project types ranging from coffee shops and retail tenant improvements to large-scale commercial projects. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in ambiguity and understands that special projects often move quickly, evolve daily, and may begin with incomplete drawings, conceptual direction, or limited information. Success in this role requires strong communication, creativity, urgency, and the ability to make informed decisions while keeping projects moving forward. This is not a role for someone who needs perfectly defined scopes or highly structured environments. We are looking for a proactive leader who can interpret vague instructions, anticipate challenges, collaborate with field teams and clients, and confidently navigate changing project demands. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple special projects simultaneously from preconstruction through closeout
  • Coordinate with clients, field teams, subcontractors, vendors, and internal departments to ensure successful project execution
  • Interpret incomplete drawings, conceptual plans, and evolving scopes of work
  • Develop project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, and manpower coordination
  • Lead project meetings and maintain consistent communication with stakeholders
  • Identify and solve problems quickly in fast-changing environments
  • Track project costs, change orders, RFIs, and schedule impacts
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients while delivering a high level of customer service, support estimating, planning, and operational coordination as needed
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget
  • Adapt quickly between different project types, customer expectations, and timelines What Makes Someone Successful in This Role The right person for this role is:
  • Nimble and highly adaptable
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities
  • Calm under pressure and capable of making decisions quickly
  • Resourceful and solution-oriented
  • Able to operate independently without needing constant direction
  • Organized despite fast-moving environments
  • Strong at communicating with both field and executive teams
  • Comfortable managing projects that may not have fully developed drawings or scopes
  • Motivated by variety rather than repetitive work Preferred Personality Traits We are looking for someone who naturally:
  • Thrives in dynamic environments
  • Enjoys solving problems others avoid
  • Can "connect the dots" with limited information
  • Balances urgency with attention to detail
  • Is confident but collaborative
  • Takes ownership and drives projects forward
  • Is resilient and flexible when plans change Qualifications
  • 3+ years of project management experience in electrical construction or commercial construction
  • Experience managing tenant improvements, retail, hospitality, restaurant, or fast-track commercial projects preferred
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, scheduling, budgeting, and project coordination
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Experience with change orders, RFIs, submittals, and procurement
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and construction management software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Preferred Experience Experience in any of the following project types is highly desirable:
  • Coffee shops
  • Retail
  • Restaurant / food service
  • Tenant improvements
  • Fast-track commercial projects
  • Occupied remodels
  • Design-build projects Why Join Us At Rye Electric, we move fast, solve problems creatively, and build projects differently than traditional contractors.
Our Special Projects team plays a critical role in delivering high-quality work in environments that demand flexibility, responsiveness, and innovation. If you enjoy variety, autonomy, and the challenge of making unclear situations successful, this role is built for you!
