Job Description
Project Planning (20%):
Refine the scope of the projects in collaboration with Principal Investigator, faculty, sponsors, and managementImplement a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the projectManage the resources (time, money, equipment, etc.) required to complete the projectDevelop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activitiesReview the project schedule with sponsors, management and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as requiredDetermine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completionProject Implementation (40%):
Execute the project according to the project and research planAppropriately manage the task allocation and time commitments, of the project team spanning multiple UM departments and consortium staff at partnering institutionsDevelop records and appropriate project documentation using appropriate toolsSet up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented, secured and accessibleMonitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the projectEstablish a communication schedule to update sponsors, management and the project team on the progress of the projectReview the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standardsProject Oversight (20%):
Create regular progress reports in collaboration with the project teams at University of Michigan, grant participants, and sponsors (and occasionally federal entities) to review with management and stakeholders (including NIH and/or other federal entities)Communicate with sponsors and sponsor teams as outlined/specified in contractWork with management and department finance to monitor and approve all budgeted project expendituresMonitor project funds according to established accounting policies and proceduresEnsure that all financial records for the project are up to date in collaboration with the Nephrology Finance OfficeProject Evaluation (10%):
Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of qualityEvaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phaseSupervision (10%):
Direct supervision of Research Administrative AssistantFunctional management of project teamBachelors Degree. Biological Science Background and Business Management ExperienceKnowledge of Project Management processes within a scientific environmentKnowledge of Project Management tools and systems5-10 years planning and/or management experience including interfacing with Federal Entities (NIH)Experience with Federal Grant funding practices is a plus.
Masters Degree preferredExperience with Pharmaceutical Industry Partners/Sponsors desiredRemote work allowedStandard work week (40 hrs. 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)Occasional Travel (3x/year)Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
