Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Refractory Project Manager include but are not limited to the following: Ensuring that the scope of work received is in sufficient detail to ensure preparation of an accurate cost estimate and planned work schedule Providing accurate, detailed cost estimates in a timely fashion per the scope of work provided Providing updates to project cost outlooks Being a primary customer contact on assigned projects and/or customers Working with the General Foreman to continually monitor the performance of employees, suppliers and subcontractors Ensuring the safe, on time, on budget completion of all jobs under his/her management Monitor budget/actual cost and proposed vs. actual duration
DUTIES AND TASKS
The Primary duties of the Refractory Project Manager include, but are not limited to the following: Ensure that safe working conditions exist during the project and that all procedures, including documentation, are enforced Ensure that the requisite number of SORs are performed each week by each supervisor Ensure good housekeeping in all areas of the project. Conduct and document an audit for each shift weekly Provide a detailed cost estimate and schedule of each job based on the customer's specifications, which becomes the budget and schedule for the job Thoroughly understand the cost basis for the job Conduct an Earned Value Analysis daily for the project. Indications of overspend are to be immediately communicated to the Vice-President Construction. Develop plans to remedy situations Approve all deviations to the issued purchase order for construction jobs within 24 hours of notification of the deviation and ensuring that all project paperwork, including Change Orders, are processed in a timely fashion and per company guidelines Contact suppliers and subcontractors in order to obtain accurate prices as necessary Ensure that purchase orders are issued to the appropriate suppliers and subcontractors and hold them accountable to the terms and conditions agreed upon. Ensure the capture and recording of all information relevant to his/her jobs in order to monitor the progress of work completed Monitor the job as it progresses, working with the General Foreman daily to ensure that work is being completed on time and within the budgeted costs Ensure that all invoices are legitimate and processed and that all billable work performed is billed accurately and timely per contract Approve all invoices to be paid to suppliers, subcontractors and employees for the jobs under his/her control Ensure that all costs and schedule activities are correct and are properly entered into the computer tracking systems daily Work closely with the project cost manager/timekeeper to ensure that documentation supporting labor, material, equipment and subcontractor expense is generated and approved by the customer on a timely basis Order and coordinate delivery of additional material as required, after receiving approval, in order to ensure satisfaction of customer. Complete a report explaining the reason for any significant material shortage. Instruct billing clerk to obtain credit from supplier if material was defective Perform a review on specific completed jobs in order to systemize opportunities to reduce future costs and improve overall project execution. Actively participate in daily project meetings as required by the client. Assure that shift turnover meetings take place every shift and that the meeting format is per the Company standard. Lead meetings as required. Assist the General Foreman in resolving customer complaints quickly and to the satisfaction of the customer whenever possible Assist the General Foreman in monitoring the quality of work produced and resolving employee and subcontractor performance and work-related issues Promote continuous improvement in Company operations Ensure that all work schedules are updated daily and that all projects are on time and on budget. Immediately notify Company management and appropriate subcontractors and suppliers of any problems. Ensure that the Company relationship with customers and employees are consistent with company policies and procedures Walk-through the entire job personally as required to field verify progress of project
REQUIREMENTS
Education Required:
High School degree or equivalent
Preferred:
Two years additional education from an accredited college majoring in engineering, finance and/or construction management
Experience Required:
At least five (5) years' experience as a field supervisor managing
REFRACTORY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
Preferred:
At least five (5) years' experience in an estimating position in the
REFRACTORY INDUSTRY
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities Knowledge of the refractory, commercial - industrial construction business, products, suppliers, and major players Ability to communicate with personnel at all levels to explain project needs. Must be able to problem solve and relay that information in a concise and effective manner to the appropriate parties. Ability to communicate and work closely with a diverse group of people, including the Company's employees at all levels, sub-contractors, suppliers, regulatory agencies and other outside professionals with whom the Company may deal with in the scope of the project. This position requires the ability to understand and use basic math formulas to create estimates and to prepare management reports and proposals This position requires the ability to read, write, and speak English in order to read requests for proposals, correspondence, and communicate with current and prospective subcontractors, suppliers, customers, and employees, and to make presentations either in person or over the telephone This position requires familiarity with the following programs: Microsoft Word, Excel and Projects The Refractory Project Manager is expected to seek guidance and direction as necessary for performance of duties, yet perform duties in an independent manner with minimal direction and supervision. He/she must consistently show ability to recognize and adjust priorities and must demonstrate good judgment in investigating and solving problems. Respects the confidentiality of the Company, customer, and personnel information Maintains cooperative working relationship with other department personnel and demonstrates ability to tactfully handle difficult situations Recognizes and takes initiative to perform duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned, and assisting others as needed Always provides proper notification and advance notice of absence Arrives at job when scheduled Assumes responsibility for staying aware of changes in the Company's policies and procedures Maintains a well-groomed proper appearance appropriate for the position and situation
WORKING CONDITIONS
The Company makes every effort to provide a pleasant, climate-controlled atmosphere. This position will work both inside of the company office and in the field at the job sites. Outside time will be required to visit customer job sites, suppliers and subcontractors. These locations will be visited throughout the year, during all weather conditions, and require travel by auto. This position will require hours in excess of the normal forty in order to meet certain time deadlines that may be required in order to meet proposal submission deadlines as well as insure timely and accurate billing of work completed.
