This role is responsible for managing survey and mapping projects from initiation through completion, ensuring technical accuracy, adherence to schedules, and alignment with client expectations. Key Responsibilities Manage and oversee all phases of survey and right-of-way mapping projects. Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of: Survey Control Reports o Preliminary Right-of-Way (ROW) Mapping o Highway Boundary Maps o Abstract Request Maps o Acquisition/ Conveyance Maps o Final Right-of-Way Maps Ensure all deliverables meet NYSDOT standards, requirements, and submission protocols. Coordinate and schedule field crews and office staff to efficiently execute project tasks. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining clear and consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle. Monitor project budgets, track progress, and implement adjustments to maintain profitability and efficiency. Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring all milestones and deadlines are met. Review project scope with staff and provide clear direction to ensure project objectives are understood and achieved. Conduct quality control reviews of survey data, mapping, and final deliverables. Identify potential risks or issues and proactively develop solutions to keep projects on track.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in land surveying and project management, with a focus on NYSDOT projects. Demonstrated experience preparing and managing right-of-way mapping deliverables listed above. Strong understanding of NYSDOT standards, procedures, and mapping requirements. Proficiency in survey and mapping software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, GIS platforms). Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget constraints.
Additional Skills:
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to lead and mentor field and office staff. Effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, designers, and public agencies.
Work Environment:
Combination of office and field coordination responsibilities. Occasional site visits may be required. Salary range is $135K to $160K per year, commensurate with experience. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in delivering critical infrastructure projects while working with a collaborative and experienced team.
