Job Description
Position Summary The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects from start to finish. This role ensures accurate job costing, billing, and financial reporting while supporting project managers in maintaining budget control and profitability. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and has a strong understanding of construction accounting practices. Key Responsibilities Project Financial Management Track and maintain project budgets, costs, and forecasts Monitor job cost reports and analyze variances Support project managers with financial insights and cost control Accounts Payable Review, code, and process vendor and subcontractor invoices Match invoices to purchase orders and contracts Manage lien waivers and ensure compliance prior to payment Accounts Receivable / Billing Prepare and submit client invoices, including progress billing Track receivables and follow up on outstanding payments Assist with retainage tracking and release Job Costing & Reporting Maintain accurate cost coding for labor, materials, and equipment Prepare Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports and financial summaries Assist with month-end close and project reconciliations Change Orders & Contracts Track and process change orders Maintain project contracts and supporting documentation Ensure all changes are properly documented and billed Payroll & Compliance Support Support payroll allocation by job and cost code Assist with certified payroll reporting when required Maintain compliance with contracts, insurance, and regulatory requirements Project Administration Maintain organized project files and documentation Coordinate with project managers, vendors, and internal teams Support project closeout activities and final financial reporting Minimum Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments Knowledge of job costing and construction accounting principles Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, or similar) Strong Excel skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously Preferred Qualifications Experience with construction management software (Procore, Viewpoint, etc.) Knowledge of AIA billing and retainage Familiarity with lien waivers and contract compliance Work Environment & Physical Requirements Primarily office-based with occasional interaction with job sites Prolonged periods of sitting, working on a computer May require extended hours during month-end or project deadlines Why Join Us Opportunity to work on high-impact construction projects Collaborative, team-oriented environment Career growth within accounting and project management
Pay Details:
