Job Description

Permitting Coordinator - Fiber Construction Position Summary The Permitting Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating permitting activities for fiber optic construction projects while serving as a liaison between internal project teams, permitting contractors, utility providers, municipalities, and field operations. This role will oversee permitting workflows, conduct project walkouts, support field surveys, and ensure projects move efficiently from planning through construction readiness. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced construction environment. Key Responsibilities Permitting Coordination Manage and oversee third-party permitting contractors to ensure permit applications are submitted accurately and on time Track permit statuses, approval timelines, and outstanding requirements across all active projects Coordinate with municipalities, counties, utility providers, and permitting agencies regarding permit requirements and approvals Ensure all required documentation is collected, organized, and maintained for each project Identify permitting risks, delays, or conflicts and escalate issues proactively Maintain permitting trackers and provide regular status updates to leadership and project management teams Field Walkouts & Surveys Conduct field walkouts for upcoming construction projects Perform site evaluations to verify constructability, routing, utility conflicts, restoration concerns, and permitting requirements Coordinate and support field survey activities for aerial and underground fiber projects Validate project scope against field conditions and identify required adjustments Capture photos, notes, and documentation during site visits for project records and permitting packages Work closely with project managers, inspectors, and construction teams to ensure field conditions align with approved designs Project Coordination Coordinate with internal departments including project management, construction, splicing, materials, and customer service teams Assist in maintaining project schedules by ensuring permits and surveys remain ahead of construction activities Support utility coordination efforts related to Joint Trench and power utility projects Participate in planning meetings and provide updates on permitting and survey progress Qualifications Experience in telecommunications, utility construction, or fiber optic construction preferred Knowledge of permitting processes for city, county, DOT, and utility projects preferred Ability to read and interpret construction prints, utility maps, and fiber designs Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously Proficient in Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, or similar project tracking software Valid driver's license with ability to travel locally for field walkouts and surveys Preferred Skills Experience with underground and aerial fiber construction Familiarity with Joint Trench projects and utility coordination Knowledge of permitting platforms and municipal requirements Experience working with Comcast, utility providers, or telecom infrastructure projects Work Environment Combination of office and field environment Frequent local travel to job sites and municipalities Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during field walkouts
