POSITION
Traveling Civil Project Manager
LOCATION
U.S. Projects - Travel Required (primarily rural sites)
PAY:
Base Salary $100,000 - $140,000 (Total package is competitive and comprehensive + per diem when based on project that requires travel)
JOB SUMMARY
The Traveling Civil Project Manager leads large earthwork and site development projects from startup through closeout, with a on-site presence. This role partners closely with the Project Superintendent to drive production, safety, quality, schedule performance, and cost control. Reporting to the Area Manager, the Project Manager is responsible for client interaction, project scheduling, subcontract and vendor management, financial forecasting, and contract administration. Projects may include solar farms, BESS sites, and other large civil site development work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead project execution from award through closeout, including planning, mobilization, staffing coordination, and project controls setup. Build and maintain the project schedule, coordinate sequencing with field leadership, and drive timely updates and recovery plans as needed. Own cost control and forecasting, including monthly projections, production tracking, and proactive management of budget risks and opportunities. Manage subcontractor and supplier relationships, including scopes, buyout support, procurement coordination, and performance accountability. Administer the contract, including RFIs, submittals, correspondence, and documentation discipline aligned to project requirements. Identify, document, price, and negotiate change orders. Ensure potential changes are tracked early and communicated clearly. Lead project meetings and ensure action items are assigned, followed through, and documented. Coordinate with the Area Manager on key decisions, project risks, staffing needs, and client strategy. Partner with the project team to support a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements. Maintain clear, professional communication with owners and stakeholders. Prepare owner-facing documentation and updates as required. Develop and support project engineers and field engineers through mentoring, delegation, and accountability for results.
QUALIFICATIONS
4+ years of heavy civil construction experience, with direct project management or project engineer leadership on earthwork and site development scopes. Proven ability to create and manage schedules, budgets, and project work plans. While working with the superintendent to support strong field execution. Experience in contract management and negotiation. Experience supporting or leading forecasting, change management, and owner communication. Working knowledge of construction technology tools, including scheduling software. Examples of tools include Primavera P6, Procore, Excel, HCSS Products or other similar platforms. Strong understanding of civil construction means and methods, including mass grading, utilities, and site logistics. Ability to lead a project team, run meetings, and coordinate across field leadership, subcontractors, and vendors. Willingness to travel and remain onsite for the duration of assigned projects. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent heavy civil experience will be considered. Maintain an insurable driving record.
