Project Manager - Heavy Civil and Site Development Job Description This role leads heavy civil and site development projects in the Charlottesville area, overseeing the full project lifecycle from preconstruction and budgeting through execution and closeout. The Project Manager ensures that projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget while coordinating multiple stakeholders and maintaining high standards of quality. This position focuses on grading, utilities, roadway, and related infrastructure work and offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful infrastructure projects in Central Virginia within a collaborative, family-oriented culture. Responsibilities Lead heavy civil, site development, and infrastructure construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. Oversee all phases of construction, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, and project closeout. Develop, manage, and track project budgets to ensure financial performance and cost control. Create and maintain detailed project schedules, ensuring work progresses on time and in alignment with project milestones. Coordinate and manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritizing resources and resolving conflicts as needed. Supervise and coordinate grading, utilities (water, sewer, storm), and roadway construction activities to ensure quality and compliance with project specifications. Manage change orders, including identification, documentation, pricing, and negotiation to maintain project scope and profitability. Oversee project engineering and document control processes, ensuring accurate and timely project documentation and records. Collaborate closely with field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and design professionals to drive project success. Monitor jobsite safety and ensure adherence to safety standards and company policies throughout the project. Communicate project status, risks, and progress clearly and regularly to stakeholders and leadership. Identify and resolve project issues proactively, including schedule delays, budget variances, and field conflicts. Support and mentor project team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Ensure all work complies with applicable standards, codes, and owner or agency requirements, including DOT and municipal specifications where applicable. Essential Skills 5+ years of project management experience in heavy civil, site development, or infrastructure construction. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Strong knowledge of grading, utilities (water, sewer, storm), and roadway construction. Proven experience managing full project lifecycles from preconstruction and budgeting through execution and closeout. Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and schedules effectively. Experience managing multiple concurrent construction projects. Strong project management skills, including planning, coordination, and execution. Experience with construction management and project coordination in a field and office setting. Proficiency in managing change orders and associated documentation. Experience with project engineering and document control processes. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to guide and motivate project teams. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to handle competing priorities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with VDOT projects or municipal/public works projects is preferred. Familiarity with DOT standards and public infrastructure requirements is beneficial. Experience working on impactful infrastructure projects in regional markets is an advantage. Interest in working within a family-oriented culture that emphasizes employee development. Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment with experienced leadership. Work Environment This role is based onsite and in the office, supporting active heavy civil and site development projects in the Charlottesville area and broader Central Virginia region. The Project Manager works closely with field operations and office staff in a collaborative team environment guided by experienced leadership. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Charlottesville, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
