Job Description

Senior Designers are responsible for leading and managing all aspects of a project from onboarding through final installation and photography, while maintaining project schedules, budgets, and overall design integrity. They are tasked with overseeing all technical aspects of a project, collaborating closely with the Principal, Operations Coordinator, architects, contractors, consultants, and design team members on concept development, presentations, documentation, and execution. They should be highly adept at space planning, finish selection, product/furniture specification, construction coordination, budgeting, procurement oversight, and client communication. Senior Designers work solely under the creative direction of the Principal, alongside a small team of trained experts. They will be responsible for independently managing their own projects and clients, while mentoring and overseeing Junior Designers and support staff, as needed. Senior Designers will be expected to manage all levels of projects, from furnishings and lighting, to large-scale renovations, new builds, and developments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Positively represent and reflect the firm's brand at all times. Ability to independently lead and manage projects from onboarding process, to concept/design development, through procurement, installation, and photography, with minimal supervision. Serve as the primary day-to-day lead on projects, proactively driving schedules, communication, deliverables, and decision-making throughout all project phases. Consult with clients, and Principal Designer, to establish design intent, direction, style, schedule, and budget. Develop floor plans, source merchandise, select finishes/fabrics/materials, and prepare detailed specifications for all project components. Prepare polished physical and virtual design boards and presentation materials for client meetings. Oversee quality, clearly defined finish, lighting, millwork, construction, and FF&E specifications to be shared with vendors, contractors, and trade partners, in partnership with our CAD Specialist. Coordinate construction and installation timelines, collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, fabricators, and trades as needed. Attend regular site meetings and job site visits to review progress, troubleshoot issues, maintain design intent, and resolve field conditions in a timely and professional manner. Review shop drawings, material samples, and custom fabrication details for accuracy and approval. Responsible for project survey, capturing onsite measurements, pictures, notes, and properly documenting all project conditions and updates. Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, schedules, specifications, procurement records, approvals, and correspondence within internal systems and software platforms. Assist in tracking project budgets and proactively communicate any schedule delays, pricing changes, or budget impacts. Correspond with clients, vendors, contractors, and consultants with the highest level of clarity, professionalism, and responsiveness. Know and cultivate relationships with vendors, manufacturer reps, artisans, fabricators, and trade partners, as needed. Strong familiarity with major vendors/manufacturers and their products, fabrication techniques, lead times, and ordering requirements. Keen understanding of fabrication techniques for custom built-ins, furniture, upholstery, drapery, bedding, pillows, and specialty finishes, as well as the ability to create detailed specifications for fabrication. Ability to anticipate project challenges and independently develop thoughtful solutions that protect design intent, budget, and timeline. Keep up to date on industry standards, materials, fabrication methods, engineering requirements, and best practices. Organize and lead installations, styling, and direction of photoshoots for completed projects. Delegate tasks effectively to Associate and Junior Designers while maintaining quality control and project consistency. Mentor and support Junior Designers and Design Assistants, through project development and execution. Track and record time spent on client projects through TSheets.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have 5+ years experience working as a Senior Designer at a full-service design firm with positive reference checks. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture. Proficiency in AutoCAD expected (Photoshop, SketchUp, Revit, and/or Rhino a plus). Design portfolio demonstrating completed projects as Lead Designer. Experience managing high-end residential interior design projects from concept through installation strongly preferred. A well-developed eye for scale, balance, flow, composition, and architectural detail. Capacity to see the full design vision as part of the overall home and architectural environment, not just the immediate space. Ability to produce hand sketches of architectural, millwork, and FF&E plans to convey design intent, troubleshoot issues onsite, and make informed recommendations that move projects forward while considering all impacted areas. Exceptional organizational, communication, and client-management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. Self-motivated, highly accountable, proactive, and solutions-oriented. Ability to remain calm, professional, and resourceful in fast-paced or high-pressure situations. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle. Ability to travel to job sites, vendor meetings, installations, and project locations as needed.
POSITION OVERVIEW & IDEAL CANDIDATE
This position is ideal for a highly motivated and entrepreneurial-minded designer who desires the experience and responsibility of running large-scale projects, leading clients, and driving design direction, without the financial burden, operational stress, or risk of owning and operating their own business. Our firm will provide the infrastructure, brand presence, systems, marketing, vendor relationships, and project pipeline, allowing Senior Designers the freedom to focus on exceptional design execution and client experience. We do not believe in micromanagement; however, we do expect a mature, accountable, and collaborative professional who can independently lead projects while working within a team environment. The ideal candidate must possess strong versatility in design aesthetics and be capable of executing a wide range of styles, including modern farmhouse, traditional, art deco, modern, transitional, and more, depending on the needs of the client and project. Designers who are overly tied to one specific aesthetic or seeking to build a personal brand/business within the company environment will not be the right fit for this role.
