Job Description

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION OF MENDOCINO COUNTY ASSISTANT PROPERTY SPECIALIST - TEMPORARY JOB DESCRIPTION MAY 2026 DEFINITION
Provides assistance in property management and clerical processes within the Housing Assets Department. Work directly with other members of the department and the Housing Assets Manager. Bilingual, English and Spanish preferred. Willing to train candidates who demonstrate a willingness to learn.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives supervision from the Housing Assets Manager, Deputy Director and Executive Director.
EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Communicate with tenants and applicants by phone, email, and in writing.
  • Check and respond to voice messages and emails daily.
  • Utilize software systems to look up and enter tenant/applicant information.
  • Accurately document tenant and applicant interactions digitally.
  • Assist in the tenant recertification process.
  • Assist in the applicant waitlist process.
  • Prepare leasing and property management documents.
  • Meet with tenants and applicants as needed.
  • Maintain a consistent department filing schedule.
  • Serve and post notices to residences throughout Mendocino County.
  • Distribute residency applications as needed.
  • Attend and contribute to daily department meetings and monthly staff meetings.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of and Proficiency in:
  • Microsoft Office 365 software, including Word, Teams, and Excel.
  • Speaking and writing both the English and Spanish languages.
  • General office functionality and decorum.
  • Using office equipment, including laptops, copiers and printers.
  • Safe office and off-site work practices.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Accurately compose and store different types of files.
  • Demonstrate effective time management per department expectations.
Ability to:
  • Learn and interpret Agency programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely and effectively with tenants, applicants and other staff members. Both orally and in writing.
  • Interpret spreadsheets and accurately enter data.
  • Interpret submitted certification documents and accurately determine income using program rules.
  • Interpret and enforce residential leases.
  • Prepare accurate written work orders.
  • Offer ideas on how to improve department practices.
  • Limit personal phone usage during working hours.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
High School Diploma or GED Valid State Driver's License Office environment. Occasional on-site work at single family homes and multi-family complexes. Occasional operation of agency vehicles on city streets and state highways in order to complete property management, program, and agency functions. When evaluating whether an individual meets these physical requirements, Community Development Commission will consider the availability of reasonable accommodation. 1. Ability to exchange information. 2. Ability to read and comprehend a variety of materials. 3. Operate a motor vehicle for extended periods of time. 4. Ability to operate a computer keyboard. 5. Sitting for extended periods of time. 6. Using a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. 7. Standing, walking, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, bending over at the waist, grasping, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling and moving, lifting and/or carrying up to 30 pounds to waist height. 8. Report to work as scheduled and on time. 9. Maintain reliable and predictable attendance. 10. Ability to develop effective working relationships with co-workers and with members of the general public. Reports to the Housing Assets Manager, Deputy Director and/or the Executive Director. $18.00 to $21.00 per hour depending on experience.
