  • Swainsboro, GA Department Information Resident Life Job Summary The Student Assistant will support Resident Life as a Resident Advisor on the Swainsboro Campus beginning Fall 2026.
The Resident Advisor (RA) position is a para-professional position that offers a unique opportunity to develop skills and behaviors that will become valuable in a wide range of fields. Training, employment expectations, and supervision are designed to provide staff members with experiences that will assist them as they transition to professional work experience. Resident Advisors assist students with personal concerns, aid new university students with their transition to the institution, provide leadership by making choices reflective of a positive academic and personal role model, offer assistance to students by identifying and utilizing campus resources, adjust personal schedules to be visible and available for students during the evening hours, maintain confidentiality of student information, and educate students regarding their expectations and limitations in reporting confidential information. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period. Responsibilities Educational and Social Programming Initiate the development of educational, social, and passive programs throughout the year Complete a sociogram and Eagle Chats, which are one-on-one conversations with residents Create passive programming and educational information, including bulletin boards that are changed monthly and door decs Implement programs that meet the needs and interests of residential students and provide programs that reflect the dynamic nature of the residential student population. Residential Learning Community Programming Possibly be assigned to a Residential Learning Community (RLC) RAs in these communities will create educational and social programming around the theme of the community and they may work with campus partners to develop the RLC experience. Response to Student Behaviors and Incidents Recognize, respond to, and report violations of the Student Code of Conduct, the Residential Community Guide, and federal, state, and local laws Administrative Management, Communication, Meeting, & Training Expectations Manage the posting of information for students to review within the community Complete all reports, records, and evaluations in a timely manner and as requested Facilitate the completion of wellness checks and assist with scheduled and unscheduled fie alarms and other safety drills when necessary Support hall leadership teams with the management of building keys and participate in the completion of regular duty coverage Assist with reporting facility concerns and addressing vandalism, damages, or safety concerns as directed Display appropriate and effective communication with students, colleagues, supervisors, guests of the University, and others in the University community while completing work responsibilities Shift Specifics Up to 25 hours per week Flexible with schedule of availability Up to 29 hours on special weeks and up to 40 hours during training/non-academic weeks Scheduled night and weekend work is required regularly Must attend and participate in all scheduled, ongoing meetings and trainings Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education Must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 2.25 semester/term GPA at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment Preferred Experience Leadership and/or programming experience Proposed Salary Stipend, awarded in the form of full housing costs (exception of $20 semester fee) 7 meals per week plan Monetary bi-weekly payment based on years of experience First Year

ABILITIES
