This role will help improve system resilience and business continuity, support renewable integration, advance automation, manage risk across critical infrastructure, and modernize legacy platforms while maintaining operational reliability. What You'll Do Report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serve as a trusted partner to the Executive team and Board of Directors. Provide strategic leadership and oversee all information technology (IT), operational technology (OT), cybersecurity, data, and telecommunications functions. Lead a bold, step-change transformation in how technology is positioned at ALLETE
  • Simplifying and modernizing the technology landscape, strengthening governance and accountability, and elevating technology from a traditional support function to a strategic driver of enterprise value, operational resilience, and innovation.
Help the company navigate the growing convergence of IT and OT, strengthen the digital capabilities that support safe and reliable operations, and enable faster, data-driven decisions across the enterprise. Hold enterprise accountability for cybersecurity strategy, resilience, and compliance, including oversight of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) function. Safeguard critical systems and infrastructure while ensuring strong governance, preparedness, and disciplined execution across both corporate and operational environments. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required; preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred). Fifteen or more years of progressive leadership experience, including technology initiatives and cross-functional teams. Demonstrated success leading enterprise IT strategy, operations, and large-scale transformation initiatives, including technology modernization and organizational/cultural change. Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and best practices. Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills, including executive and Board-level engagement. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Preferred Experience and Certifications Experience with utility operations and OT systems (e.g., EMS, SCADA, AMI). Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., NERC and FERC). Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISA, PMP, or utility/industry credentials (e.g., NERC CIP) are beneficial but not required. The expected annual base compensation range for this position is $250,000
  • $300,000.
Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, and experience.
