Position Details Position Information Division Student Affairs Department Housing and Residence Life Working Title Residence Life Coordinator - 1609 Vacancy Type Exempt Professional Staff (EPS) Min T/E Requirements Master's degree required. Experience with successful hiring, training, and supervision of student staff required. Knowledge of student development theory, application, and current trends. Demonstrated supervisory, budgeting and fiscal management, communication, writing, planning, problem-solving, technology, leadership, team building, partnership building, and organizational skills. Ability to seek innovative solutions to problems. Must be student-oriented and have a commitment to working in a team-based, collaborative environment along with the ability to work with a culturally diverse student population. No If yes, please indicate the end date of the grant.(if applicable) n/a Primary Purpose of Organization Unit The Office of Housing and Residence Life offers residential students the opportunity to be part of a community that is clean, safe and respectful; a community that is interactive and conducive to academic, educational, and social development. Primary Purpose of Position The primary purpose of the position is to help achieve departmental and divisional goals by providing student support services and educational programming while maintaining facilities that are safe, attractive, sustainable, and well maintained. This is a live-in position. Job Description The Residence Life Coordinator ( RLC) at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke ( UNCP) plays a critical role in fostering a supportive, engaging, and inclusive living-learning environment. Reporting to the Director of Residence Life & Housing, the RLC applies student development theory to enhance retention, engagement, and student well-being. This position oversees multiple residential communities, ensuring a safe, equitable, and thriving on-campus experience. As a live-in staff member, the RLC manages all aspects of assigned residential areas, including student staff supervision, programming, community development, conduct, facilities oversight, and participation in the on-call response system. The ideal candidate will be proactive, compassionate, and committed to promoting residential students' sense of belonging in all aspects of residential life. Community Development and Student Engagement Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes student engagement, belonging, and academic success. Develop and implement community-building initiatives and programs that align with UNCP's mission and residential learning outcomes. Provide individualized support to residents through regular interaction and intentional relationship-building. Promote personal growth, leadership development, and responsible community living among students. Staff Supervision and Leadership Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of Resident Assistants (RAs) and Community Ambassadors (CAs, desk assistants). Foster professional growth through leadership development opportunities, ongoing training, and mentorship. Provide guidance and support to staff in the planning and execution of programs, community engagement, and crisis response. Residential Operations and Administrative Oversight Oversee daily operations of assigned residential communities, including key management, room inspections, and facilities maintenance coordination. Coordinate move-in/move-out processes, health and safety inspections, fire drills, and hall closing procedures. Manage administrative responsibilities such as occupancy reports, budget oversight, and policy updates. Student Conduct and Crisis Management Serve as a hearing officer for low to mid-level violations of the Code of Student Conduct. Address behavioral concerns, mediate roommate conflicts, and enforce community standards fairly and consistently. Participate in the Residence Life Pro Staff On-Call system, providing 24/7 support for crises and emergency response as needed on a rotating basis, about one week every five or six weeks. Brave Experience Support Integrate the Brave Experience (the UNCP Student Engagement Model) into all aspects of residential programming, staff training, and community development. Actively support UNCP's commitment to fostering learning, community, belonging, and well-being in residential communities. Facilitate deliberative dialogues to encourage free sharing of ideas and perspectives in support of Division initiatives. Collaboration and Campus Partnerships Collaborate with various campus departments, including Academic Affairs, Student Conduct, Counseling Services, CARE Team, and Police & Public Safety, to ensure student success and well-being. Chair one committee that oversees Housing and Residence Life operations and initiatives, including staff selection, programming, training and development, and social media committees. Support campus-wide initiatives, including Orientation, Welcome Week, and Enrollment Management events. Partner with faculty and staff to promote living-learning communities and academic engagement within the residence halls. Professional Development and Other Duties Engage in professional development opportunities and attend trainings, workshops, and conferences. Serve on departmental and university committees to support campus-wide initiatives. Contribute to continuous assessment and improvement of Residence Life policies, programs, and practices.
