Job Description

Vice President for Student Affairs Full-time, 12-month, Benefited 00009583 Internal/External Position Description The Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) reports directly to the President as the chief student affairs officer and serves as a member of the President's executive leadership team. The VPSA provides strategic leadership for the Division of Student Affairs and is responsible for advancing student success, engagement, and the overall student experience in alignment with the VCSU strategic plan. The VPSA oversees the day-to-day operations of Student Affairs including career services, counseling and mental health services, diversity services, financial aid, health services, student activities, residence life, student conduct, new student orientation, student governance, retention, and first-year experience programs, and other administrative areas that may be created or reassigned by the University President. This role is responsible for developing and implementing programs and services that support recruitment, retention, and graduation while enhancing the overall student experience. The VPSA plays a key role in aligning co-curricular experiences with the academic mission, fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus community, and supporting a high-quality student experience both inside and outside the classroom. The VPSA ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, including Title IX, Clery Act reporting, and campus safety requirements, and represents the University at the state and system level. The VPSA provides leadership for assessment, continuous improvement, and strategic initiatives within Student Affairs, supervises professional staff, and manages divisional resources to support institutional priorities. Minimum Qualifications A completed master's degree in a relevant field from an accredited university. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior-level leadership position working with post-secondary students. Preferred Qualifications A completed doctoral degree in a relevant field from an accredited university.

Proven leadership in student engagement, residence life, and co-curricular programming that enhances campus experience and student satisfaction.
Student Success, Retention, and Well-Being:
Demonstrated success advancing student retention, persistence, and overall student success through data-informed strategies and initiatives.
Enrollment and First-Year Experience:
Experience designing or leading orientation, transition, and first-year experience programs that support student success and enrollment goals. Ability to collaborate effectively with Enrollment Services and Academic Affairs to support recruitment, retention, and completion.
Leadership, Culture, and Team Development:
Experience aligning divisional work with institutional priorities and leading continuous improvement efforts. Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and develop high-performing teams while fostering a collaborative, student-focused culture.
Compliance, Conduct, and Risk Management:
Knowledge of student conduct processes, Title IX, Clery Act, and other compliance and risk management responsibilities.
Strategic and Institutional Leadership:
Sound judgment and the ability to navigate complex student and institutional situations with integrity and accountability. Proven ability to serve as a collaborative campus leader, build partnerships, and represent the institution effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Overall Candidate Profile:
A leader with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills who is student-focused and learning-centered, leading with integrity, empathy, and accountability. Valley City has a population of approximately 6,500 and is located 60 miles west of Fargo on Interstate 94, making the campus easily accessible both from the east and west.
