WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A RESIDENT SERVICES OFFICER AT RESIDENT SERVICES OFFICER
As a Resident Services Officer (RSO) at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a vital role in supporting the Housing Department's Home Ownership programs. In this position, you will deliver comprehensive pre and post-occupancy counseling, training, and orientation to all participants, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources needed to thrive. Your expertise will extend to providing guidance on the Indian Housing Program, including policies, regulations, and available aid, enabling tenants and program participants to navigate their housing journey with confidence. By fostering strong relationships and imparting valuable insights, you will help empower individuals and families, contributing to a vibrant and supportive community.REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS RESIDENT SERVICES OFFICER JOB
To excel as a Resident Services Officer (RSO) with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, a diverse skill set is essential. Candidates should possess strong communication abilities, allowing them to effectively convey information to a wide range of audiences, from the Tribal Council to individual homeowners. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with experience in database management, is necessary for maintaining accurate records and managing reports. An understanding of public housing applications and community services will also be beneficial. Successful RSOs should demonstrate proficiency in basic arithmetic and the ability to interpret complex policies, federal regulations, and tribal laws related to the Housing Program. Time management and project coordination are critical, as is the ability to work independently and collaborate with various staff members. Additionally, a solid grasp of community resources will enable the RSO to act as an effective liaison, ensuring that residents receive the support they need for successful homeownership. Knowledge and skills required for the position are: Responsible for the development and on-going administration of counseling programs which includes training sessions for participants on program requirements for Mutual Help and other home ownership agreements; clarification of purchase price schedules and pay-off; explanations of property care and maintenance, budgeting and money management, policies of the Housing Department, federal regulations, Tribal ordinances and laws that affect the tenants and homebuyers. Act as liaison between the Housing Department, residents and resident organizations. The incumbent will prepare newsletters, brochures and pamphlets to train and advise of policies, regulations, ordinances and contractual requirements. Will maintain comprehensive personal contact with individual homeowners and will maintain accurate records of all contacts and meetings. Will maintain accurate and complete files and waiting lists on new applicants and homebuyers. Responsible for the timely and accurate submission of written reports to the Housing Manager, Housing Board and Tribal Council. Will make referrals to other agencies as necessary to assist homebuyers in maintaining compliance with their contracts or leases. Coordinate activities with and assist the Tenant Relations Officer, Construction Supervisor and other Housing Department staff when necessary. Performs as other duties as assigned by the Housing Manager.Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. At least one (1) year experience in one or more of the following: public or Indian Housing applications and eligibility certification for public housing, social service, community services or property management. Demonstrated ability to accurately compute simple to moderately complex arithmetic formulas using both manual and computer-based spreadsheet methods. Authenticated ability to use MSWord, Excel the Internet and related computer soft and hardware consistent with the performance of the assigned duties of this position. Experience in HDS database software is desirable. General knowledge of community resources and methods of organizing community efforts. Ability to interpret policies, federal regulations and tribal rules and ordinances related to the RSIC Housing program. Confirmed ability to implement effective public presentations regarding homeownership. Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences ranging from the Tribal Council to groups or individuals of varied social, economic and education status. Must possess demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and projects. Proven ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and without constant supervision. Must possess a valid Nevada driver's license. Must be able to pass a background check and be bondable.
