Job Description
Fight climate change, gentrification, low wages, and other issues facing our communities! New York Communities for Change seeks a full-time community organizer. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to build relationships, develop leaders. They will be able to mobilize community members into action. The community organizer is a staff member of NYCC reporting to a Lead Community Organizer(s).
About NYCC:
Since 2009, NYCC has been a part of hundreds of campaigns that challenge the way poor and working-class Black and Latino communities have been starved of wealth for centuries. We FIGHT economic power at its core. We RESIST fascist and racist policies that affect our most vulnerable. We BUILD power and transform our communities.Job Responsibilities:
Building one or more neighborhood chapter that meets monthly. Supporting an issue-based member committee. Mobilizing community members to take action around the issues affecting their communities Identifying and developing community leaders Signing up new NYCC membersQualifications:
A successful community organizer will be able to grow their chapters and committees and move members into action.You should have:
Proven ability to build organizing committees or to mobilize constituents Proven grassroots fundraising abilities Experience working under pressure in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends At least 1 year of organizing experience is preferred but not required. Spanish or Creole fluency strongly preferredCompensation Package:
Salary commensurate with experience starting at $50,000. Generous PTO package including vacation, holidays, personal, sick, and wellness time.
