Job Description

New England Institute of Technology (NEIT), a non-profit, residential, technical university in East Greenwich, RI has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA) . The VPSA serves as the university's senior student affairs officer and as a member of the President's Executive Committee.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Reports to the Executive Vice President
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The VPSA initiates and provides executive leadership for the policies and programs that support respectful and supportive student experience, student engagement, student retention, and persistence to graduation. The VPSA directly supervises the directors of Student Support Services, Re-enrollment; Career Services; Residential Life; and Student Engagement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. This position is best filled by an individual who recognizes and accepts that NEIT has an effective approach to its delivery of academic programs as well as student programs and services which differ from traditional higher education. 2. As a member of the Executive Committee, assist in the implementation and evaluation of programming and planning, including NEIT's Long Range Plan. 3. Provide strategic and operational leadership and fiscal accountability for all functions of the departments that fall under the
VPSA:
Student Support Services (advising, behavioral health counseling, orientation, disability related accommodation requests, and student conduct); Re-enrollment; Career Services; Residential Life (including student conduct for residential students); and Student Engagement (Student Advisory Council, student activities, student clubs, intramurals, NEIT's Esports program, the fitness center, commencement, and the annual golf tournament). 4. Consistently evaluate student retention by examining retention data and identifying strategies for continuous improvement. Prepare retention reports to be shared with the leadership team, Office of Teaching and Learning, academic department chairs, and student advisors. 5. Prepare and administer an annual student survey to assess students' overall satisfaction and satisfaction with NEIT's support services. 6. Oversee the preparation of the VPSA's departments' annual budgets. 7. As a member of the Executive Committee, provide regular counsel to the President on the student perspective. 8. Be a visible presence on campus and at NEIT events.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance, and support to department directors to ensure successful student experience along with compliance with NEIT's policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of budget development and management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be collaborative and build effective relationships with colleagues, students, and support staff.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, problem-solving, and communications skills.
  • Outgoing, hands-on, and "roll up the sleeves" mentality; think strategically, execute tactically
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Master's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or Higher Education Administration.
