Job Description
ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU Residence Life Area Coordinator - Female only position It is an occupational qualification that the university will accept only female applicants for female residence halls and male applicants for male residence halls for live-in positions. Area Coordinators of gender inclusive halls may be male or female because students of both genders are assigned to live in areas of those halls. The mission of Residence Life is to support ACU's mission by offering intentional, Christ-centered living and learning communities that provide opportunities for student learning, student success, and authentic relationships in excellent residential facilities. In all areas of our work in Residence Life, we seek to exemplify Christ in the way we serve and interact with students and the university at large. Basic Responsibilities Engage with residents to create community and relationship for the purpose of student-focused care and growth Hire, train, and mentor senior resident advisors (SRAs) and resident advisors (RAs) and lead a team of student employees Manage student conduct and mediate conflict Participate in facility upkeep for multiple buildings Other duties

Engaging in awareness around our at risk population and implementing proactive approaches to student success Assisting with residents recommended to SOAR when needed: Staying informed around SOAR cases for residential students and aiding in accessing students.On Call:
Crisis/after hours response within residence halls and residential students.Programming and community development:
Implementation of regular programming inside our halls and across our campus that builds interpersonal relationships and belonging within our individual hall communities. Care forStudent Staff Training:
Contribute to the development and implementation of a semester long training through the academic course "Human Development and Leadership in Residential Communities" as well as training throughout the Fall and Spring semester while students are serving in their roleMentoring:
Meet regularly one-on-one with your RAs and SRAs to build an interpersonal relationship and ease their access to support.Programming/Team Development:
Meet regularly with staff to build strong team dynamic and community that contributes to their effectiveness in RA/SRA role. Care forFacilities and Building Furniture:
Assist in the care of furniture in your building and assess the need for furniture replacement on an annual basis.Common spaces:
Strategically use your building's common spaces in a way that promotes community and meets the needs of your residents.Laundry room management:
Aid in the effort for organization and cleanliness in Laundry rooms. Submit and follow up on work order for machine malfunctions. Partnership withFacilities:
Submit work orders around building/room needs and advocate for your building around necessary changes for the safety and benefit of the residence. Seek healthy and positive relationships with ACU facilities. Working knowledge of housing software (StarRez): Maintain skills to use StarRez for Move-in/Move-out as well as changes happening within your hall throughout the academic year and accessing student information related to housing.Professional Development Requirements:
Within this role and job description, a dedication to care for self is of high importance as we maintain the care of residents, student staff, and the buildings. Additionally, each Area Coordinator will bring a different set of strengths to the department and the job is intended to have space for those strengths to be known and utilized. The Area Coordinator role will have space created for team development through weekly staff meetings and interpersonal relationships through the department. The role will also give attention to professional development and training, special projects, and self care.Qualifications:
Professional Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree required. Preference given to applicants with Residence Life/Housing experience, Student Affairs experience, or other relevant experience in a residential college or university setting. An understanding of critical issues facing late adolescents. Counseling skills/listening skills. Public speaking and extemporaneous speaking abilities. Leadership experience. Conflict management experience. Management and administrative coordination/organizational abilities. Personal Presents self in a professional manner (i.e., dress, verbal and written communication, including email communication). A high level of interpersonal and social skills. Must be able to relate to all age groups) as well as individuals from different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Ability to keep calm and cool in heated situations. Flexibility and ability to handle frequent interruptions and handle various tasks at once. Ability to readily recall names and faces. Maintain high levels of confidentiality. Sense of confidence in self and purpose - ability to take both insults and encouragement in stride. Ability to be collegial - working well with others. Able to handle criticism, to be flexible in a fast-paced work environment, and able to be empathetic. A strong sense of humor. Physical Demands Must be able to work under stressful conditions. Must be able to work at a fast pace sometimes for long hours. Must be able to work late nights/stay up late at night with residents. Must be able to climb stairs. Must be able to carry heavy objects.
