Job Description

Description Columbia Basin College (CBC) seeks a Resident Advisor (RA) in support of CBC's Residence Life Program. The RA will live in the Residence Hall and serve as a student leader responsible for developing relationships among the residents living in the hall, as well as providing them with general information on CBC policies and procedures, resources, activities, and events. The RA will comply with all terms of the Residence Hall lease throughout the appointment and follow all Residence Life policies and procedures, including all the expectations of students outlined in CBC's Student Code of Conduct. Student housing provides an alternative option for students wishing to live closer to campus and participate in residence life program offerings. The Pasco campus has two residence halls: Sunhawk Hall and Hawks Landing Hall. The RA reports to the Director for Residence Life.
Compensation Pay Range:
$17.13 - $17.13 per hour. Housing in a studio unit within a residence hall (estimated value $11,400.00).
Primary Responsibilities Hall Community Development:
Under the supervision of the Director for Residence Life, RAs will connect with residents and facilitate the development of student community within the building by doing the following: Interact with all residents living within the assigned section of the hall and provide information on valuable resources available on campus and in the Tri-Cities; Serve as the initial point of contact when a resident's concern is received, investigate appropriate solutions, and mediate the issues as needed; Model positive behavior and habits that reflect the expectations and standards of CBC; Assist residents in becoming acquainted with the programs and services available to them through Residence Life, CBC, and the Tri-Cities; Encourage social interactions among the members of the Residence Hall by organizing events; Promote programs and events sponsored by Residence Life by posting and distributing information; Take an active role in promoting CBC events, including residence hall programs, Associated Students of Columbia Basin College programs, and sporting events; Coordinate a minimum of one event (approved by the Director for Residence Life) within the Residence Hall each month for a total of 12 programs during the academic year. The following stipulations must be met: Two programs must be done in collaboration with a campus resource. Two programs must be Academic Achievement-based. Two programs must be Life Skills Development-based. Two programs must be Interpersonal Competency-based.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director for Residence Life, RAs are responsible for completing administrative tasks to assist in the communication of information between the residents and Residence Life as follows: Distribute materials to residents such as flyers, newsletters, and surveys; Post educational information in public spaces (bulletin boards) on a monthly basis; Facilitate community hall meetings with residents at the beginning of each quarter to check-in with residents as a group and provide any updates and information; Attend weekly staff meetings held throughout the year and an individual meeting with the Director for Residence Life as scheduled; Advise the Residence Hall Council meetings and relay information to Residence Life; Submit monthly reports to the Director for Residence Life on residence hall and programming; Report any safety issues (facilities or residence hall community disruptions/violations) to the Director of Residence Life; Assist with move-in at the beginning of the Fall Quarter; Assist with move-out as residents are leaving the hall; Assist with promoting applications and re-applications; and Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Current full-time CBC student for the academic year, enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits per quarter and not exceeding 16 credits per quarter without prior authorization from the Director of Residence Life; Minimum of 30 successfully completed college credits with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5; Good standing academically, financially, and with student conduct at CBC; and Sufficient availability to fulfill the position responsibilities, including approximately 19 hours per week. Preferred Qualifications Minimum 3.0 GPA; Demonstrated awareness of barriers to student retention and the needs of students; Ability to work with a diverse population without bias or prejudice; strong appreciation for cultural diversity; Friendly, enthusiastic, and outgoing personality, with the ability to welcome new residents, serve as a role model, and promote a positive residence hall environment; Completion of at least two quarters at CBC by the time of appointment; Previous leadership experience in a student group or organization; and Experience planning and organizing events.

Terms Must reside in the Residence Hall with a commitment to serve in the position from September 1st to August 31st. Must comply with all terms of the lease at the time of application and throughout the appointment. Required to follow all Residence Life policies and procedures, including all the expectations of students outlined in CBC's Student Code of Conduct. The RA will be evaluated on an annual basis and reappointment is contingent on evaluation as well as the fulfillment of all responsibilities and expectations. The RA is required to communicate their overnight absences to the Director for Residence Life in advance and will need to arrange for coverage of their regular duties by the other RA. RAs are permitted up to three nights away from the building each month with permission from the Director for Residence Life. If additional time off is needed, the RA may request the additional time away from the Director for Residence Life. Room and board plan can affect the amount of federal financial aid provided.
