ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Phoenix Public Works Solid Waste Division provides trash, recycling, and other waste diversion services to more than 400,000 households. Our work culture is founded on delivering customer satisfaction and continuously striving for efficiency in our operations. We are seeking dedicated employees with experience in weighing vehicles that enter the City's transfer stations and landfills. Responsibilities include record commodities, assess fees, receive monies, and record charges for each customer. A high degree of accuracy in cash handling, charge systems, daily balance reports, and ensuring that the rules and regulations regarding dumping are followed. This position will work under the general supervision of the Solid Waste Foreman. A vacancy exists at the Public Works Department 27th Avenue Transfer Station, the schedule does include holidays and Saturdays. Other vacancies may occur at the North Gateway Transfer Station in the future.
Essential functions:
Analyzes customer information, answers inquiries and resolves issues from the public regarding city services bills or weigh station transactions; initiates or terminates utility services at the request of the customer. Accepts payments for utility or transfer station services. Authors responses to written correspondence from the public and other City departments. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity. A high degree of competence for accuracy of cash handling, charge systems, daily balance reports, and for ensuring that the rules and regulations regarding dumping are followed..
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess: Proficiency in: Entering data and viewing information on multiple computers monitors at the same time. Microsoft Office applications. Navigating computer programs and database systems. Excellent verbal communication and a desire to effectively listen and resolve customer concerns. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time. Commitment to continuous improvement, collaborative teamwork, and excellent customer service.
SALARY Pay Range:
$21.54 to $30.31 per hour.
Hiring Range:
$21.54 to $27.49 per hour.
Pay Range Explanation:
Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only:
Please understand that this is pay grade 337. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade. When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of Customer Service experience performing functions such as cash handling. One year of experience with oral and written communication. One year of experience using a computer for reading, writing, reviewing written materials and completing data entry. All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Environmental and working conditions:
Requires working for prolonged periods standing in one location, and/or walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. Working early mornings, irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as extreme heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust for extended periods of time. Moving heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less) and repetitively bending and moving heavy objects throughout an eight-hour shift may be required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Some positions will require flexibility of shift start times and work locations on short notice.
Experience with:
Interpreting and applying rules and regulations. Using computer terminals to input, update, and query information. Daily data entry into customer database. Analyzing/explaining accounts, balances, and details to customers. Working with solid waste software, such as Weigh Master, Scale Scan or other electronic scanning systems. Solid Waste customer service or government utility.
