Job Description

Help Shape the Future of Housing in Fairfield The City of Fairfield is seeking an exceptional housing professional to help shape the future of housing and neighborhood vitality, and to address homelessness and its impacts, in a diverse and growing community at the heart of Solano County. Located midway between San Francisco and Sacramento, Fairfield is home to nearly 123,000 residents and offers a desirable quality of life, a strong sense of community, and ambitious goals for housing diversity, reducing homelessness and its impacts, and organizational excellence. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact in a city committed to supporting a thriving, inclusive community. Reporting directly to the City Manager and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, the Housing Services Director will lead a multifaceted department overseeing affordable housing, the Housing Authority, homeless services, and key federal and state housing programs. From advancing affordable housing developments and tax credit projects to strengthening homelessness response and shaping long-term housing strategies, this role sits at the center of some of Fairfield's most visible and important priorities. This is a rare opportunity for a housing professional who wants to do meaningful work with real impact. Fairfield seeks a collaborative, politically astute, and emotionally intelligent leader who brings both technical depth and strong people leadership. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable navigating affordable housing finance, housing authority operations, grants, and homelessness initiatives as they are building trust, developing staff, strengthening accountability, and partnering across the organization and community. Fairfield values leaders who are humble, approachable, action-oriented, and willing to roll up their sleeves as a "working director." The salary range is $192,833-$258,224 DOQE, plus excellent executive benefits.
