Job Description

The City of North Miami is seeking an experienced, principled, and operationally disciplined Assistant City Manager to serve as a senior executive responsible for translating strategic priorities into results for the organization and the community. This position is responsible for ensuring that City departments operate efficiently, transparently, and in alignment with the policy direction of the City Council and the leadership of the City Manager. The Assistant City Manager plays a critical role in coordinating the day-to-day operations of City government, strengthening organizational performance, supporting complex initiatives, and ensuring the effective delivery of services to residents, businesses, and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and experienced administrator capable of managing complex municipal operations, guiding department directors, and ensuring that major initiatives move from concept to implementation. This position requires strong judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to details Assist the City Manager in the overall administration and coordination of City government. Act on behalf of the City Manager when required. Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight for departments assigned by the City Manager. Ensure departments operate efficiently and in alignment with City priorities. Establish Key Performance Indicators for departments and staff.
ROLE AND IMPACT
The Assistant City Manager serves as a key member of the City's executive leadership team and acts on behalf of the City Manager when required. The position helps coordinate the daily functions of City government, improve internal processes, strengthen collaboration across departments, and ensure that City operations are carried out effectively and responsibly.
The successful candidate will:
Translate strategic priorities into measurable operational outcomes Improve coordination across departments and strengthen organizational effectiveness Support the City Manager in navigating complex administrative and policy environments Help guide major development, infrastructure, and community initiatives Ensure the City organization consistently delivers high-quality services to residents Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible administrative or executive leadership experience, preferably in municipal government or a similarly complex organization. Master's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant leadership experience in other governmental or organizational environments may also be considered. Comprehensive knowledge of public administration and municipal management principles Strong understanding of organizational operations and administrative leadership Experience managing budgets, operational systems, and major initiatives Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to establish effective working relationships with elected officials, department heads, staff, developers, and the community Skill in negotiation, collaboration, and conflict resolution •To be considered for this position, applicants are required to submit a cover letter, a writing sample, and three professional references to apply@northmiamifl.gov .
