Muscatine, Iowa, is a welcoming community located along the Mississippi River in eastern Iowa, offering a high quality of life with a population of approximately 24,000 residents. The city features a strong local economy, excellent schools, and a range of recreational amenities, including parks, trails, and a scenic riverfront that serves as a focal point for community life. With an active arts and cultural scene, diverse community events, and a commitment to livability, Muscatine provides an appealing balance of small-town character and regional opportunity. The Public Works Director performs highly responsible, professional and administrative work involving administering, directing and coordinating the work of all employees in all public work activities including engineering, roadway maintenance, transfer station, building and grounds, refuse collection, landfill, equipment maintenance, public transportation, and collection drainage. The successful candidate will have excellent leadership skills and an ability to create effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and the community. A solid knowledge of the principles and practices of all Public Works activities, applicable regulations and laws, and solid communication skills is required. Position requirements include bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's preferred) and a minimum of five years in a supervisory role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The minimum starting salary is $113,182. The City offers excellent benefits including health and dental insurance, life insurance, long term disability, paid vacation and sick leave, 10 paid holidays, pension, and a supportive team. The selected candidate will be required to pass a physical, drug screen, and background check following job offer. Residency within 30 air miles of city limits required within 6 months of hire.
