Position Summary:
The Chief Accounting Officer is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions of the Company and its subsidiaries, including Equity Bank. This role ensures the integrity of financial information, compliance with regulatory requirements, and provides strategic financial leadership to executive management and the Board. The CAO plays a critical role in facilitating financial reporting, maintaining an effective control environment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitating due diligence and M&A. Responsibilities and Expectations Key Responsibilities Direct and oversee all accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements Maintain, develop and enhance key policies and procedures surrounding the accounting and financial reporting processes Manage and develop team members within the operational accounting and external financial reporting verticals within the department. Serve as technical resource and provide operational backup as needed Foster collaboration and innovation within the department, ensuring cross-training and continuous improvement of processes and procedures to effectively scale the organization Monitor and analyze the Bank's financial performance through monthly financial statements, ratios, and management discussion and analysis Manage the Company's relationship with external service providers including auditors, regulators and counsel Stay current on applicable GAAP, tax, and regulatory pronouncements; communicate and implement changes as needed Collaborate with the CFO and other executives on long-term strategy for the organization, including modeling of strategic objectives and monitoring of compliance with anticipated outcomes Collaborate with senior leadership in operational roles throughout the organization to ensure processes and procedures are yielding required results for maintenance of accurate reporting Ensure strong internal controls are in place and maintained, including compliance with SOX requirements. Partner with internal audit to enhance, as necessary Maintain, assess and enhance systems utilized within the department to enhance efficiency while maintaining an effective, accurately and timely reporting framework. Mergers & Acquisitions Lead and conduct financial due diligence for merger and acquisition opportunities, including analysis of financial statements, fixed assets, contracts, insurance, litigation exposure, and other related areas Collaborate with executive management, brokers, and legal counsel on branch sales and acquisition transactions Review and validate M&A financial models and computations to ensure assumptions, cost savings, and economic outcomes are reasonable and well-supported Strategic Leadership and Other Duties Provide financial insight, analysis, and commentary for internal training and development programs Partner with the CFO and other executives on matters involving financial strategy, capital planning, litigation support, regulatory relations, shareholder and director communications, contracts, and risk management Required Skills & Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting 10-15 years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and bank operations Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to manage, develop, and motivate teams Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with a professional executive presence CPA Who We Are Equity Bank, a full-service, $7.9 billion community bank, is based in Wichita, Kansas, with over 80 bank offices throughout Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
