Job Summary:
A Safety Enforcement Officer II investigates and enforces the occupational safety and health hazard rules and regulations of City government at City worksites. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek which may include evening, weekend and flexible hours. Work is performed at various work sites throughout the City government where there are unsafe or unhealthy conditions. Work may require moderate physical exertion including bending, stretching and climbing ladders.
Minimum Qualifications:
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
Education:
Have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
AND Experience:
Have two years of experience in the investigation and enforcement of occupational safety and health and vehicular regulations in the work place.
OR Equivalency Notes:
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:
Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations in the work place and as they pertain to vehicle use. Knowledge of basic training and administrative techniques. Ability to determine through observation and discussion with employees the existence of safety or health hazards on the work site and the use of vehicles. Ability to act with independence in safety inspections. Ability to analyze facts, identify patterns, draw conclusions and devise measures to correct health and safety hazards. Ability to evaluate data, compare data to existing standards, draw conclusions and make recommendations. Ability to present and defend findings and recommendations. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to gain the cooperation of and cooperate with others. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City, State and Federal government personnel. Additional Information Background Check Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. Probation All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months. Eligibility Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final. Education Accreditation Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Successful applicants will be placed on the employment certified eligible list for at least six months. You may be required to complete supplemental questions to further examine specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of the position.
