Job Description

Commitment to Citizen Service Service encompasses all aspects of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indian s governmental operations. Every employee shares the responsibility to provide exemplary service, dignity, and respect to all Tribal Citizens, the Tribal Council, and staff members. To this end, all employees have an obligation to identify and report any service problems, issues, or concerns and through designated channels, initiate, recommend, and actively participate in solutions.
Position Summary:
As assigned by the Chief Judge and Court Administrator, primarily responsible for the development of infrastructure regarding practice, procedure and processes of the Court regarding court rules, administrative orders, forms, and judicial policy and procedures. Responsible for special projects as assigned by the Chief Judge and Court administrator. When necessary, provides assistance to clerks in clerical duties.
Essential Functions:
Work independently within defined parameters and under the Court Administrator s supervision on projects related to tribal court development and perform designated duties involving legal research and writing, implement methods and procedures to improve court infrastructure, operational effectiveness, and improve the quality of service. Assist the Judiciary to develop practice, procedure and operations, recommends improvements and modifications, and prepares various legal memorandum as required on practices and procedure, operations and activities. Assist the Court Administrator in the collection of information and in the preparation of court rules, administrative orders, personnel policies, court forms and templates. Non-Essential Perform other related functions as assigned.

Standard office equipment.
Systems used:
MS Office Applications, Internet, Solid Circle case management, Editor software for Court Templates.
Position Requirements:
Law student currently attending an accredited law school, and in good standing, whose program of study has been recognized by the American Bar Association, Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the United States Department of Education. Understanding of the Pokagon Band's Codes and Ordinances as they relate to court practice and procedure, services and operations. Understanding of court operations, processes, and an understanding of legal terminology and court procedures. Understanding of the development of court procedures and practices as it relates to the infrastructure needs of courts. Experience in research and writing of legal memorandum. Experience with Microsoft Office software. Basic skills in Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Intermediate skills in MS Word. Complete security training and requirements of the Pokagon Band and for the Law Enforcement information Network (LEIN) and the National Criminal Information Center (NCIC). The internship is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of criminal background investigation and submission to drug and alcohol testing. Submission of a writing sample and references.
Physical Requirements:
Work is generally sedentary in nature and will frequently require sitting, however standing and walking will occasionally be necessary. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment. Frequently required to talk and hear.
Work Environment:
General office or court room environment. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Local travel may be necessary, so the ability to travel as needed is required.
