Job Description

Job ID59242 Location Columbia Full/Part TimeFull-Time Hiring Department University Stores Job Description Reporting to the Business and Finance Officer for Business Operations and Strategic Initiatives (BOSI), this position is responsible for directing and overseeing the business and finance-related functions and fiscal staff for the division, primarily focused on The Mizzou Store, with an opportunity to assist with other departments within the division. They will be the main financial point of contact for assigned departments. This position provides direction and oversight of accounting, financial reporting, budget management, and financial analysis for BOSI. The focus is to provide timely, accurate, effective, and efficient financial information to executive leadership. This position will seek to optimize our systems and processes while maintaining data integrity and strong internal controls to safeguard assets. This position will work closely with operations and senior management to support strategic financial planning and decision-making, recommending sound business practices and action. This is an in-person/on-campus position. Responsibilities include:
  • Management and leadership of a team of individuals performing a variety of tasks. Provide direct oversight, management, coaching and development of the team, ensuring department goals and objectives are met.
  • Monitor the day-to-day accounting operational functions of assigned department (s) ensuring the accuracy and consistency of data for Sales, AR, Cost of Goods Sold, Inventory, AP, and other accounts applicable for the department.
  • Manage system integrations to ensure financial data is accurate, consistent, and readily available for reporting.
  • Understand and evaluate current accounting workflows to identify inefficiencies, procedural changes, and training opportunities; recommend changes and lead implementation of those changes, including documentation of procedures.
  • Review, authorize, and monitor departmental expenditures and ensure compliance with university accounting and procurement policies and procedures
  • Lead the monthly and year-end closing process; Review general ledger and balance sheet detail on a regular basis and suggest and/or prepare appropriate journal entries in accordance with university policies, procedures, and timetables.
  • Oversee the monthly financial statement process, which includes financial forecasts and presenting monthly financial variance analysis to finance and operations leadership.
  • Lead and coordinate the annual budgeting process, including both the operational and capital budgets, working closely with each assigned unit leader to help inform the budget.
  • Partner with operations and executive leadership to align financial procedures with business goals.
  • Ability to interpret and conceptualize practical, as well as abstract problems, leveraging the available information effectively to make sound and innovative conclusions, solutions, decisions, and recommendations accordingly.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of ad hoc reports.
Shift M-F 8-5 Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to build and sustain high performing teams. Advanced level of proficiency with Excel, other Microsoft Office applications, and ERPs, PeopleSoft and Workday Planning a plus. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, analytical, project management, and communication skills. Detail oriented, efficient, multi-tasker while maintaining accuracy. Excellent leadership abilities and abilities to work with a team MBA, CPA, or master's degree or other advanced degree in relevant areas of study. Prior experience in a controller role. Salary Range:
$80,000 to $100,000 annually
