Job Description:

A major New Jersey municipality is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Public Works to oversee infrastructure, sanitation, utilities, facilities, and capital improvement projects. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of managing large-scale municipal operations, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary: (140k+ negotiable ) Pension eligibility after one year of service Medical, prescription, and dental coverage Optional vision, life, disability, and prepaid legal plans 15 municipal holidays Vacation and sick leave Key Responsibilities Direct all aspects of public works operations, including roads, sanitation, water and sewer systems, fleet, and facilities Oversee capital improvement planning and departmental budgeting Establish operational priorities and ensure efficient service delivery Manage staff, equipment, contractors, and regulatory compliance Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership and governing bodies Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following: 10+ years of relevant public works or infrastructure experience, including at least 4 years in a management role; or Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience, including at least 4 years in management; or Master's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, including at least 4 years in management Required Qualifications Experience leading public works operations for a municipality or similarly complex organization Strong budgeting and capital planning experience CPWM, PE, or relevant NJDEP certifications are highly desirable
