Job Description

Franklin County Public Health is seeking a dedicated Public Health Specialist to join our team. In this role, you'll use your public health knowledge, communication skills, and problem‑solving abilities to reduce the spread of chronic and communicable diseases, improve community well‑being, and respond to emerging health threats. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with healthcare providers, community organizations, government partners, and residents, while also contributing to vital public health planning and emergency preparedness efforts. What You'll Do Educate the public on health issues, preventive practices, and healthy behaviors Support efforts to reduce chronic and communicable diseases Perform daily disease surveillance and monitor trends in community health Investigate and report disease outbreaks or unusual health events Collect, analyze, and interpret public health data Collaborate with community partners, healthcare providers, and municipal officials Assist in planning and executing public health initiatives and response activities May help coordinate operations at Points of Dispensing (PODs) and supervise assigned staff Participate in meetings and provide technical support on public health matters What You Bring Strong knowledge of modern public health practices Ability to analyze data, think critically, and solve problems Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal Ability to prepare public health outreach materials and presentations Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently A collaborative mindset, sound judgment, and integrity Benefits Medical, Dental & Vision Retirement and Savings Plans NYS Pension System 457(b) Deferred Compensation Paid Holidays Vacation, Personal, Bereavement, and Sick Leave Reduced YMCA Membership Employee Assistance Program Mileage reimbursement Yearly Salary increases Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following: A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor's degree in a health related field and two (2) years experience in public health, emergency management, or providing direct patient/client services in healthcare, mental health, or alcohol/substance abuse treatment; OR B) Possession of a Registered Professional Nursing license and four (4) years experience in public health, emergency management, or providing direct patient/client services in healthcare, mental health, or alcohol/substance abuse treatment.
