Overview:
Accounting and consulting firm is seeking a Tax Director to join its Privately Held Business practice in New York City. This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing complex tax engagements, driving business development, and developing the next generation of tax professionals — all within a firm that emphasizes career growth, work-life integration, and a collaborative culture. Key Responsibilities Perform technical review of engagement work papers and tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S-corps, and C-corps Provide consultation on business and/or personal transactions and their related tax implications, consequences, and treatment Develop responses to IRS and other regulatory and tax authority audits, notices, and inquiries Manage larger, complex engagements and multi-client workflows to minimize risk, meet deadlines, and maximize engagement economics Lead new business development opportunities Identify and pursue extended service opportunities within the existing client base Conduct or review high-level research on complex and emerging tax issues; prepare supporting memorandums Ensure appropriate resource assignment across engagement roles Stay current on tax law changes and provide updates and training to the broader tax practice Mentor and develop less experienced professionals on engagement management, budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and client relations Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or a related discipline CPA, JD, or EA designation (must be qualified to practice before the IRS) Minimum 8 years of public accounting experience in taxation or equivalent Minimum 4 years in a managerial role involving clients and team members Preferred Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation Subject matter expert in a specific area of taxation Benefits Medical, dental, and vision coverage Generous PTO and paid sick time Flexible work arrangements 401(k) with profit sharing Wellness program Generous parental leave 11 paid holidays
