Job Description

What You'll Do:
This is a unique position in state government that combines public policy with public finance. Budget Management Analysts (BMAs) maintain a portfolio of state agencies, boards or commissions. BMAs review agency budget and policy requests and make recommendations to OBM leadership and to members of the Governor's office in developing the state's $100+ billion budget. This position also includes monitoring the day-to-day finances of their assigned state agencies, working with the State Controlling Board, researching public policy, and oral and written presentations. The BMA position provides for steady career advancement and has served as the entry point for many leaders in Ohio state government.

Analyze budget requests, budgetary and programmatic data to identify trends, variances, and potential concerns. Think critically and draw valid conclusions regarding the impact of state programs. Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. Confidently make clear and coherent recommendations in group settings with executive level staff. Or completion of undergraduate major core program in public or business administration, public policy, finance, economics, resource management or related area; 12 months work experience in public budgeting or finance. Or 12 months as Budget/Management Analyst 1, 63221. Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
