Position range in Travis County $3,565.00 - $7,335.00 Per Month Engagement Specialist
Job SummaryPerforms moderately complex (journey-level) informational and educational work to promote the services provided by the Talking Book Program to potential users, caregivers, service providers, governmental entities, and the public. Promotional work includes travel around the state, public speaking, media and social media work, design and distribution of promotional and informational materials, and cooperative work with partners in the disability services community. The Engagement Specialist works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential TasksDelivers digital literacy and assistive technology training services (classroom and web-based learning) to children and adults with visual, physical, or reading disabilities.
Implements marketing strategies for statewide library program providing services to the disabled community, including extensive travel.
Provide statewide public awareness activities, including working with and speaking to community and professional groups to stimulate interest in and support for the Talking Book Program.
Develop and distribute promotional and educational materials, including newsletters, brochures, and web page content.
Perform statistical and demographical analyses of data and contribute data to divisional reports.
Serve as a liaison to the agency's Communications office, functioning as the backup.
Other TasksPerform special duties as assigned.
Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety, dress code, and standards of conduct.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in communications, journalism, radio-television-film/broadcasting, public relations, marketing, or related field.
One year writing experience, such as newsletters, press releases, speeches, project proposals, etc.
Experience in training and development work.
Computer experience using standard software packages, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in communications, journalism, radio-television-film/broadcasting, public relations, marketing, library and/or information science, or related field. Experience in statistical and demographic analysis.
Experience producing public messaging and content for print, radio, TV, or web distribution.
Public relations experience, including participation in public awareness, promotional, or educational campaigns.
Experience making presentations to groups, such as workshops and conference exhibits.
Experience using desktop publishing software applications.
Experience developing, reviewing, and analyzing the effectiveness of advertising and public awareness campaigns.
Experience working with people with disabilities.
Experience working in a library and/or a talking book library.
Spanish language fluency (read/write).Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge in oral and written communication practices.
Ability to work under pressure.
Ability to meet established work deadlines.
Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities.
Ability to meet and interact with diverse groups of people.
Ability in promoting library services for readers with disabilities.
Ability to communicate orally and to write clear and grammatically correct materials.
Environmental/Physical ConditionsNormal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve moving; standing; pulling and pushing kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skill and coordination to safely move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends as needed. Normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies and interpret data. Travel, some overnight, will be required to conduct training, speak publicly, and attend meetings.
Other RequirementsWriting samples from actual work experience and indicative of this type of work such as PSAs, newsletters, articles, etc., must be submitted at time of application.
Complete college transcripts required with application.
Must have valid driver's license and appropriate insurance or be able to provide a driver with such.
Completion of a criminal background check required at time of job offer.
Final candidates will be asked to make a formal presentation to an audience using material provided by the Talking Book Program.
Reporting RelationshipsReports to the Program Engagement Manager.
This position does not supervise staff.

Veterans, Reservist or Guardsmen with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields for related fields pertaining to the minimum experience requirements may meet the minimum qualifications for this position and are highly encouraged to apply.
