JOB DESCRIPTION
The Public Housing Assistant functions under the Executive Director and is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the front office and supporting the Public Housing Program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manages relationships with the residents, provides guidance on leases and the housing program and resolves resident concerns and issues.
  • Communicate with applicants to answer questions regarding the waiting list. Maintains and organizes the waiting list applicant documentation.
  • Provide referrals to the public on alternative housing solutions.
  • Utilizes property management software to maintain accurate records of tenant information, rent payments, and maintenance requests.
  • Understand and communicate federal and state laws and fair housing rights to residents.
  • Performs housekeeping inspections; understand and implement HUD's INSPIRE inspection protocol.
  • Schedules vendors and maintains a good working relationship.
  • Organizes the files and the retention process.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Some knowledge of housing and community development programs is desired.
  • Ability to quickly learn and interpret regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Excellent customer service skills, ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to initiate own work projects, work independently and multitask.
  • Work in a team environment, contribute as a team member and treat co-workers and customers with respect.
  • Must respect privacy and confidentiality of client information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A combination of the following education or experience that totals two years:
  • Associate degree or greater in public administration or related field
  • Experience in housing, property management, or social services Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
