Job Description
Overview The Assistant Director of Public Works will have authority overseeing and making decisions of the day-to-day operations of Public Works, Storm Water Division. Responsibilities
- Bring about strategic change, both within and outside the organization, to meet organizational goals. Inherent to this skill/function is the ability to establish an organizational vision and to implement it in a continuously changing environment
- Anticipate, embrace and make decisions that produce high-quality results and improve service delivery by applying technical knowledge, analyzing problems and calculating risks
- Supervises the daily operations of the Division and performs the administrative duties of the division by overseeing staffing needs, progressive disciplinary actions, policy implementation, agenda/council action actions and training
- Resolve customer problems through written, verbal and in person communication
- Utilize leadership skills to lead people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission and goals
- Ensure an inclusive workplace that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork and supports constructive resolution of conflicts
- Promote a positive work environment by recognizing and rewarding solid performance and mentoring those with performance and behavioral issues to improve team cohesiveness and service delivery
- Ability to manage human, financial, data and information resources effectively.
- Identify and quantify the budgetary, personnel, equipment, information technology, machinery and other resources needed to meet mission and goals at the lowest cost
- Adapt the new normal by doing by employing proven best management business practices
- Ability to manage the engineering and/or technical organizations required to accomplish the goals of the department
- Employ technical, along with problem-solving, interpersonal, and administrative skills, to provide value to customers by providing high quality service

- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS)
- Seven (7) years' experience Licenses and Certifications Required
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire Required within six (6) months of hire
- State of Texas Registered Professional Engineer License Employment Testing Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

Relocation Package The City offers an excellent relocation assistance package that includes up to $10,000 for the following housing and moving expenses: Temporary housing assistance- Two (2) visits to the City which may include two (2) round trip flights or mileage (including hotel, car rental, etc) for the purpose of obtaining temporary or permanent living arrangements.

- Additional accrued annual vacation hours based on years of experience Basis of Rating Applications will be reviewed as they are received. A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information and the city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
