Position Summary:
Shape the Future of Vermont's Affordable Housing! Join the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board (VHCB) as a Senior Housing & Community Development Specialist, where your experience in real estate and financial analysis becomes a powerful tool for real impact in creating affordable housing for Vermonters. You will be part of a dynamic team evaluating complex funding applications for a variety of housing projects including multifamily rental, shelters and other specialized housing. You will join a collaborative team, transforming development plans into affordable homes. By identifying risks and crafting creative mitigation strategies, you'll serve as a critical bridge between statewide housing development goals and the financial reality required to bring them to life. In this role, you will dive into real estate fundamentals, assessing everything from the strength of development teams to local market dynamics and capital funding structures. You will take a strategic approach in partnership with developers who are committed to building quality, perpetually affordable housing. Your work spans the entire project lifecycle-from underwriting and preparing formal recommendations for Board action, to monitoring the construction budgets and supporting developers to bring new homes on line, on time, and on budget. You will also help manage organizational grants, ensuring that the non-profits building in our communities have the technical support and funding they need to thrive. Qualifications:
  • Commitment to VHCB's dual-goal mission.
  • Prior experience in housing development and real estate finance, feasibility analysis of housing projects and/or multi-family housing underwriting. 5+ years combined experience preferred.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations, municipalities, housing development groups, and state agencies is important.
  • Previous experience in any or all of the following is desirable: architecture, construction, real estate development, service supported housing, training and technical assistance, and working with federal funds.
  • Valid Driver's License or other ability to travel throughout the state as necessary.
Compensation:
$72,000 - $82,000 commensurate with experience. Excellent comprehensive benefits package including generous health care plan, dental coverage, vision coverage, Life Insurance, Long and Short-term disability insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, Employee Assistance Program, and more.
