JOB The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Medical Information & Services Assistant (MISA) position at the Anchorage Central Office (ACO) located in Anchorage, Alaska. Watch Alaska

What You Will Be Doing:
This position is responsible for scheduling and coordinating offsite medical care that has been deemed essential for an inmate in the care and custody of DOC. This includes reviewing the electronic health care record system for offsite referrals that need to be scheduled, communication with community medical providers, scheduling the needed care, communication of pre/post special instructions, as well as the coordination of the master centralized transportation calendar. This position requires organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, good communication skills, critical thinking to aid in understanding of the care needed, urgency and prioritization of tasks and the ability to collaborate within and outside of our system; especially with our transport team and facility staff (i.e. health practitioners, nurses and doctors).

This position is located in the Atwood building in beautiful downtown Anchorage; covered parking at the Linny Pacillo parking garage is provided for employees. This position works primarily out of Anchorage Central Office.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Two years of specific experience in a medical office, clinic, or healthcare facility providing such clerical support services as reception duties, answering routine questions on services or products, preparing and retrieving information from electronic or hard copy medical files while maintaining confidentiality, recording expenditures and receipts, proofreading, and/or typing routine correspondence. OR Three years of general clerical experience that includes clerical tasks such as performing reception duties, answering routine questions on services or products, retrieving information from electronic or hard copy files, recording expenditures and receipts, proofreading, and/or typing routine correspondence. This experience may be met by service as an Office Assistant 1 or its equivalent with another employer.
Substitution:
Either an Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in Health Information Technology or closely related field of study or a certificate of successful completion from an accredited program in medical transcription or medical coding may substitute for two years of the requisite experience.
